Maybe I am using the wrong Term/Name, That does not include up to the SKI Lifts just to the Mount Baldy Village Post office and Back ~3:05 ish...I didn't waste much time that day, but to put it in perspective I was only at the front of the B group

Here is the route with a couple rides:

Garmin Edge makes the computations real easy, if you have the means, pick one up
That would be you in the A group flying!
Some of those damn roadies are filled with Helium I swear

I looked at the routes, and I really hope you guys are not starting off climbing cold. I like to either ride from home in Ontario, or at the parking lot at Claremont Hills Wilderness Park. Gotta get some warm up.

And roadies only wish they could climb like us mountain bikers.

That's strong. Good job. We should get together and see if we can push each other into the...say...39 minute neighborhood. Like I said, I do like to go all the way through to Baldy Village though.

By the way, are you Mark?

Oh yeah, I知 Mark.

I agree, I do better when I have a rabbit to chase. I知 pretty sure I can do <40. My effort was hard but not max. All the way to the Village is my preferred ride too.

Maybe we can get together next week, I don't want to do anything too hard before Rim Nordic this weekend. Are you going to Rim Nordic?

Saris says
Rate of Ascent

  1. The vertical speed traveled or climbed in feet per hour or meters per hour.
  2. The VAM or vertical ascent in meters per hour.
  3. A reflection of a cyclist's power output on climbs steeper than 7% in grade. At an 8% grade, a rate of ascent of 1800 meters per hour requires a power output of 6.3 watts per kg and is considered the upper limit for climbing speed in professional cyclists.
6.3 watts/kg is 2.86 watts/lb and 1800 meters is 5905 feet ..
Your formula gives 2.36 watts/lb. If I arbitrarily compensate for the weight of a bike I can get 2.66 watts/lb of body weight. Close enough.

Now that we know what the numbers are, all we need is to invent the 30-hour day so we'll all have more time to train/rest to bring those numbers up.

Then i always thought it would be interesting to normalize by heart rate....you can divide by your average heart rate to observe how are efficient you are.

2.66 watts/lb / (150 beats/min)

(work / time) / weight / (beats / min * 60)

units become

~ work / ( lb * beat)

So its Work per pound per beat

Just a thought...

Did this for running is was interesting became
Speed = Dist / Time
(D / Time) / (Beat / Min)

basically came down to Distance per heart beat

Just the rantings of a madman...
