Default How to convert to SS or fixie?

I have an old cannondale roadie that was given to me by a neighbor cleaning out his gerage. he said its a 82 crest frame. (ill post pics later when i have them) It was his old college race bike and i was thinking about converting it to a fixie or ss for campous/commuting puorpses because i have a roadie with gears already.

My question is what parts would I need to put on or take off to make the conversion. thanks in advance.

PM SeatSniffer, he's done it before. Good luck! Should be a fun project.

danimal,

you need a new hub to go fixi i believe. SS is easier....(spacers and a cog)

Default there's always JB Weld

never done this myself, but I've heard of people using JB weld to lock the pawls in their hub. personally I'd lace a new wheel, but this is a cheap fix.

yeah, you can get the SS kit at performance for about $20. if you wanna go fauxed you'd have to get a new hub threaded for a freewheel, a threaded cog and lock nut. def. cheaper to go SS. plus when you ride fixed in tight corners you bounce your pedal off the ground which is annoying.

yah its definatly going to be cheaper to get the ss over a fixie. Im actually thinking about about pulling the derailer cable and cutting the chain. the derailer should provide proper tension for the chain and its going to be a hell of a lot cheaper ie free. im not worried about the weight at all i just hate riding around school with all the pedal bob on the 5 inch trail bike.

boohoo on the pedal bob. invest in a good shock and it will go away
