I'm in Menifee for Mothers Day and decided to ride home to Dana Point.
Here's the route I'll be taking. A total of 79 miles with only about 2300 ft of climbing. I'll update with pics and RR afterwards. http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united...e/893073345758 I'll take the train from Oceanside to the San Clemente train station or to the San Juan Capistrano station and ride to Dana Point from there. ![]() |

I think there's a way to connect Oceanside and San Clemente. It's some portion of the old Coast Hwy. You could look into it if you're interested. I think Justin and Allison may have ridden it in the past. Maybe PM them and see.
Good luck.

You can ride from Oceanside to San Clemente through Camp Pendleton. Show your drivers license. You have to do it in the day though. The alternative is to ride the shoulder of I-5 for a "short" portion. Believe it or not, this is legal.

We usually ride from the bike path off of College Blvd to the Harbor (cross the train tracks, then turn north up the streets to get there) and then you take a few streets, pass under the freeway and enter the base. Descend a small hill and turn left (I can look up streets if you are interested), continue riding.. another left. Exit the base, ride on another path (we think the old freeway) and then enter San Onofre state beach. I've never wanted to go much further than that ![]() |

I was planning on riding the train because I figured I'd be spent by 80 miles. Still building up to riding a century. I might go all the way depending on how I feel.
If I'm late for the 5:30 train, I'll be riding all the way for sure. I'm off! |

Well I got to state street where I would have turned right onto Sage but there was a strong headwind and it was raining up ahead, so I turned left into Hemet and headed for Ramona Expressway. I took that until Bernasconi Rd and went into Lake Perris where I took the scenic bike path around the lake. I saw a cool old Indian Pictograph on a rock that was done by the Luisieno tribe.
I took the Moeno Beach rd exit from lake perris and went through Moreno Valley to Allesandro Ave. Followed Allesandro into Riverside where I hopped onto Victoria which is really pretty and goes through the orange groves. I went all the way to La Sierra and turned right to hop on the train. I'm on the train right now so I'll post some pics when I get home. Not sure how many miles it was as I dont have a computer on the bike, I'll figure it out on the computer. It was a nice ride though, my only complaint is the smell from the dairy farms on Ramona Expressway. Lake Perris brought back a lot of good memories. It's beautiful there. |

I ride that route or some of it when we do the Hemet double. The smell of the orange groves almost makes up for the dairy farms though. It's a lot worse earlier in the morning.

Here's the ride on Map My Ride.
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united...e/343712966412 Turned out to be 70 miles. That's what it felt like. I felt like I could have done another 30. I think I'm ready for a century ![]() The batteries in my camera died in Lake Perris(right before the cool pictographs) When I find the charger I'll upload some pics. |

Hey Rob,
The route looks like fun. It looks like you will be riding near my folk's house in Bonsall.

Hey I was out on Victoria today too. I didn't see you, but then I was there a couple of hours after you, so that's no surprise.
Good job on your ride. I've done a lot of that route and enjoy the Perris bike path a lot. If you want to add a little distance I think it's much nicer to continue North out of the lake to Ironwood and ride that into Riverside. Allesandro is kinda shixxy in my opinion. Good on ya. ~R |

I know we all know how dangerous road riding is, but Rob--be super careful on Sage Rd coming out of Hemet. That road is nothing but blind curves with no shoulder for miles!!
