Default River Trail Safety Info

I know I'm a total novice to your group, but as a regular out there for some 20+ years. Just wanted to point out a few hazards. Between Imperial Hwy down to Kramer ave. they are doing alot of landscaping. Sprinklers etc. Please beware of sand / dirt on the trail. Especially around the corners just south of Imperial. It can get slippery! The Army corps are also prepping the trail for a new top coat of some sort. They have ground out the imperfections which results in alot of ruff stuff. Can be tricky if your not expecting it. Especially in a group of hammerheads.
Also for those that are umfamiliar with the river trail, may I employ a little safety, Please stay to the right of the yellow line. Even though there are no vehicles out there, there are alot of people that are unaware of the hazards that can happen out on that narrow trail.
Unfortunatly I have seen too many BAD accidents out there.
All said, and maybe to much. I plan on joining your group at the Lincoln ave. junction. Looking forward to meeting new cyclists.

It was great actually, it was no where near as hot as predicted. We had one mishaop about 2 miles into the ride involving some pedal cages, but other than that, we really socialized more than rode on teh way down. We took about 4 hours to get there, no biggie, we were having fun.... less than two hours on the return trip though!!!

Crazy guy at the halfway mark though, he was pretty strange, but I havt to admit, he was pretty good at spinning the top he was playing with all day...>Although he did talk to it a bit. .....He kept asking us to imagine what kind of a cool sound that thing would make inside a jamaican steel drum...... And if I was the guy from the Mr Clean commercial.... we thought that was a good cue to continue riding!!!!

That was so hilarious. We have to plan another roadie ride....the ride was fun and enjoyed the burger and my poor crotchial region. haha

P.S. If you are a roadie and you are coming from behind on the left say..."ON YOUR LEFT!"... some people are silly

I am a roadie and only say on your left if I feel it is appropriate. I said on your left one time when I was moving pretty quickly past someone and I think they thought I said move to the left because once I said on your left they swerved to the left and BOOM!!!

Now I don't say it if I have a clear chance to pass someone. If there are a lot of people and I have to slow down I say it.

Yah there were people who would cut us off and creep up from behind. They would then move to pass and not say anything at all. they would then get angry when we would go to make a pass and cut them off but we DONT have eyes in the back of our heads to see them behind of us. But if we did the helmets would block the view any ways so good thing we dont have them huh? oh well we, the guys that went on the ride, arent complaning just sharing the inside jokes from the ride.

Hey Gutti why did you pick this place to stop?

Ha, alot of the "Haul ass" roadies riding this trail, this particular day, had a real bad habit of buzzing us at about 20mph when we were doing about 12-15. As in coming right behind us then darting around us without ever saying anything. Maybe its just the Mtn biker in me, But I like to holler out far enough back that even if you turn left, you see me and move before I get to you.

The trail was actually pretty crowded, and people needed to slow it up, but of coarse noone did.

OH yeah, Spermy, here are the Pics of my "Other" roadie I promised

If anyone wants to put together another one of these rides post it up. I do part of this route after work pretty often and miss doing the entire thing.

As an FYI, July 6 is Blazeman, an iron distance race that starts in Huntington. You may have noticed everyone racing had a 179 number on their leg in tribute to Jon Blaise. Wasn't really a good day to be on the trail.

And really, this has been posted time and time again, roadies aren't mean, they are just always tired and not social when sucking wind. Its not easy to hold 20-25 MPH without a draft. Its like climbing on a mnt bike, but all the time.

I also never say "on your left" because people tend to look to their left when they hear it and always veer in the direction they are looking, so right in front of me.
