This is my rr to my roadie friends and I'm to lazy to change anything....
Well, Scott and I decided to hit GMR today with a twist. Scott was so gracious to come along knowing he'd be waiting for me, but still went ahead with it. I climbed GMR on the tour bike. Scale says the loaded bike is 68 pounds. It's still not fully loaded yet. But anyways, it weighs a ton. I really had some doubts going into it. As Scott and I got started we hit that roller by Alta Loma HS and it HURT! I usually welcome this hill as it brings my heart rate up and gets the ride moving, but today it just hurt. Scott was a trooper and just kept the slow pace and we talked all the way to GMR. As we started to climb Scott pulled away some but always waited up ahead for me. He wanted to make sure I had no breakdowns or needed help. Funny I had all the gear to almost build another bike, I think he was just being nice. Anyways the bugs were out in force, but the motorcycles have thinned out a bit. Don't get me wrong, there's still a bunch of them, just fewer then before. I ran into SSheetz and we road together for a while with his wife Jeanie. The temps were great, it never really got hot. But it was very dry out and I did go through two bottles but the rangers gave us another which I still have most of. We stopped at a store and I got something cold to drink and that helped a ton, but by now the wind was really starting to pick up and we were riding almost right into it. Kind of felt like we were climbing GMR again. At Haven we parted ways and I fought the wind the rest of the way home by myself. So I got a feel for what the tour is going to be like, but I don't have that much altitude in any one day, but I do think I'll be logging a lot more distance. The longest I think I'd ride would be around a 100 in a day, but altitude will only be around 4,000 and that can be split up into a lesser amount over two days if I'm having issues. Still I really enjoyed the ride, but my legs are telling me I rode a lot further then 72 miles. How was your ride?

You da man Mike! I was impressed with your pace up GMR with a 70 lbs loaded bike. Your RR didn’t quite make it clear the extent of what you did today. Mike rode from Fontana to GMR Then he continued up Glendora Ridge Road, to Cow Canyon Saddle, Baldy Road and back to Fontana. I just thought I should clarify that because so many people just do GMR and turn around.
Jeanne and I had a great ride. Like Mike said the weather was nice and warm, not really too hot. We rewarded ourselves with grub and cold Newcastles at the Baldy Lodge. It’s a great way to begin the fast descent (52 mph today ) down Baldy road. |

GMR is a great ride. Thanks for the shoe porn! And the wildflowers. Kinda freaky seeing your shoes and liking them . Can't really go wrong with specialized S-Works.
