Default Anteater Criterium RR (volunteer prespective)

Today was UC Irivine Cycling collegiate/uscf race. I volunteered for the race since I was part of the team and I always wanted to check out a road race. I was assigned to a sharp right turn at the bottom of the hill. I made sure that it was clear of debris and also to report if any crashes occur. This spot was notorious throughout the day for the gnarly crashes. The collegiate racers did fine through the turn but once the Cat 5 and 4 raced, there were a couple of collisions. Safe to say there wasnt anything major. Just a lot of road rash. One rider did taco his Carbon giant frame. Bummer.

We had a lot of collegiate teams racing this event and it was good to see our riders racing too. We also had a lot of USCF guys come out to race too. It was a reall fun race to watch and now I have the bug to buy a road bike.

A couple shots from today:

UCI guy racing Men's D

Groups of D riders

Stanford rider racing Women's B

Men's C riders preparing for the sharp right turn

Couple of UCI riders in Men's C

UCSB rider racing Women's A

UCSD rider racing Women's A

UCI rider in Men's A

UCI Alum in the Masters Cat

Nice pics. Does UCI have some strong riders? I know Cal Poly SLO has some awesome riders, good triathletes too.

We (ASU) hosted out CRIT in Febuary. We had a ton of pros come out. That was awesome to watch em race.

I raced collegiate and CAT 5 too, but I don't think I'll do any more crits. I've seen too many bad crashes....

Yea we got a couple strong riders but the problem is that many are going to graduate soon.

Yea hosting a race is great! You get to see a lot of riders come out.

Hopefully ill get a road bike soon! We should do some rides in the summer.

Thanks to you and your team for putting on those races! I rode in the cat 5 race and, aside from getting dropped pretty early and hard, I still had a good time. I made a couple of bad choices but, then again, that's what cat 5s are all about. I'll learn. Even though the turnout wasn't huge, it made for a pretty relaxing and supportive atmosphere. Any word on whether or not it will be held again next year? I want redemption! lol

It depends on how the collegiate schedule looks like next year but I think we'll put on a another road race.

I was there yesterday supporting my daughter who races Women's "A" for UCSB. Here are some of the shots I took

1- A short lived break

2-

3-

4- She led out the pack at the beginning of the bell lap and took her teammate to the front...

5- and they got the win.

6- Men's A action

7-

8-

9- UCSB FTW!

10- A class display of sportsmanship

Kind of hard to compete with Redlands, but UCI does a good job with the Anthill.
