Foo, you should take a drive to Laguna and head up Nye's Place (one of the Seven Sisters). I swear, facing uphill looks like you're about to get launched into outer space. 22% grade, a little steeper in the corners.
I'd also recommend a 27T cassette, (doable with a 25T) on a road bike. If you put a foot down you'll have to roll into a driveway to start again. Good brakes are a must-have on this descent.

Those are the first pics I've seen that do the incline justice.
For years I've seen pictures of the Fargo climb and thought it didn't look all that bad. I've done most of the climbs in Laguna and kinda figured they were worse. I can now see why it would be tough on a road bike.

Another killer hill event...
I raced Snake Alley criterium back in the 80's in Burlington Iowa (similar to Lombard Street in San Francisco). The race is hard because you have to climb the bumpy bricked surface Snake Alley so many times at high intensity. |

Damn, I wish I could climb like those guys in the video. I love to watch the pro's climb GMR. After you've seen it, you still can't believe they go up as fast as they do.
I've climbed Fargo St on my road bike and there are some streets in Laguna that are comparable.
