I just send in a deposit for a steel De Salvo frame. Now the wait begins. Sorry for the near meaningless post but I'm excited!

I'm going to be basing my color scheme after this bike I saw a while back or RBR.
![]() I may use white panels with matching red lettering but keeping with the same fonts. Rather than using owner name on the rear top tube I will be using RoadMaven in white font. Wait time is 3-5 months. The rest of the build will be using parts from my current build. When replacing parts I will opt for silver ones rather than black. Tape will be tanned cork. Saddle will be Selle An-Atomica. Shimano Ultegra parts...

Wow, makes me wish I went with another steel road frame than my current carbon Kestrel. I used to rock a Steelman, but it was a flexy sob and needed replacing.
Were you considering anyone else other than De Salvo? Retrotec has always been high on my list. |

I was considering Kish, True Fabrications, Rock Lobster, Landshark, Curtlo, and a few others. I spoke at length with True and De Salvo. In the end I went with De Salvo. It was a lengthy mental battle and decided to pull the trigger on De Salvo last night.

I am contemplating going with indexed downtube shifters rather than bifters.
Thoughts? My reasoning is the following. They are cheap, simple, and lightweight. Plus they are retro. There are far fewer moving parts.

I say have him do the downtube mounts for shifters.....you can still use STI levers with the little cable stop dealies that bolt onto the downtube shift mounts.
I have my steel Lemond set up with 9speed downtube shifters....it's works great and looks awesome but I still prefer the quickness and convenience of STI levers or SRAM Dualtap(or whatever they call it). B |

I have been working on a few paint schemes for my new DeSalvo. Thoughts? Too much? Too kitschy?
The red would be like this. Slightly sparkly ![]() I am leaning towards this as it is classic and simplistic enough to last. The others seems a little kitschy but still could be really cool. Yes to keep the Maven brand alive I branded the frame the RoadMaven. ![]() The next two are slight variations on an Italian theme as a result of a pimp pair of Pumps I purchased last week. The white would be a pearl and the yellow is gold in both. ![]() ![]() I love the idea of the UCI colors. I love the simplicity of this design. The white would be pearl again. Is it sacreligious to the UCI and the rules of the UCI to paint a DeSalvo with the UCI colors when a rider has not won a UCI championship aboard a DeSalvo? ![]() The rest of the parts will be silver bits with antique silver brown Selle An-Atomica or Brooks saddle. Looking at silver Thompson Elite x2 stem. Trying to decide between a silver Thompson Elite post or silver Miche Supertype post (below). ![]()

Dang yous guys is fast. Thanks! I can't wait for this thing to arrive. What do ya think about the seatpost? Is that thing sweat or what? The price diff is substantial when considered as a percentage (44%) more but the raw dollar difference is not that much (to me).

ohhh, nice choice. mike d. has built me 3 frames...one ti 29er, one steel 29er (below)and a steel crosser.
classic colors will look best. panels look even better. stick to classi tones, you won't get tired of the paint scheme and it will look great with that miche post!!! here is my 29er fixie; ![]()
