Not really roadie, but not a mountain bike topic either.
http://www.sdvelodrome.com/ Begins at 6:30PM. Free for spectators, cheap for racers. Racers are self categorized, and no license is required. Must have previous track experience to race. Come race, watch the races, or hang out with hipsters outside the perimeter fence. ![]() EDIT: To clarify, this is a weekly series that runs all summer. |

Do you have to have track experience on THAT track, or any? I know the Carson Velodrome requires that you take their class.

"All racers must have completed the beginning track class, or have proof of prior velodrome experience." I don't know what would constitute "proof of prior velodrome experience." If you want to check, you can try emailing someone on the website, but I've had trouble emailing the www.sdvelodrome.com website in the past. Alternatively, you can try contacting Sean Burke (www.cyclingscience.org) who is the current president of SDVA. His email and phone number or on his website. I'm currently in his class. If I remember, I'll ask him on Wednesday what the scoop is. |

This is a cool event. The line-up for the burn-out/warm-up. More to come once I get around to editing.

So I asked Sean about racing if you have previous experience. He said that if someone has previous experience on the track, just show up and race. Race organizers may ask you some questions to check to make sure that you know what you're talking about, but he said most people are honest about their experience. You don't need a "certificate" or anything, nor are you required to take the SD Velodrome class if you have previous track experience.
If you're new, race in Group C. You'll get about 3 races in during the night, each a different type. Races go: Juniors Group C Group B Group A Then repeat three times. |

I got to say it was good chatting with Greg (Chipsandsalsa) after I was done racing. I'm telling you Greg, you should sign up for track class.

I am considering the track class, but my cycling interests are already spread too thin (MTB, road, time trials). |
