Default Bike Snob NYC on road racing

His blog today is pretty funny, for anyone who hasn't checked it out:

http://bikesnobnyc.blogspot.com/

I particularly liked this bit:

"Don’t get me wrong—I don’t think cyclists should start misbehaving in an attempt to get press. But remember when Jan Ullrich took Ecstasy, crashed his car through a bakery window, and was found rolling around naked in a wedding cake? Come on, that was fun."

I usually do, but sometimes I just don't get it. Today's, however, was great.

The core message is right on the mark. Watching road racing gets old pretty quick unless you're one of the few roadie racers who really follows it. I agree there's lack of any television programming showing the broader picture of cycling and all the things "regular" folks do and there's probably a lot more demand for that than TV executives think.

A show following a group of mountain bikers as they travel around the country and explore new terrain would be vastly more interesting (note to TV executives: yes, I'm available).

Or covering some of the big raucous critical mass-style social rides around the country would be cool. I'm amazed at all the crazy, party, themed rides put on through the http://midnightridazz.com/ just here in LA.

Or visits to bike factories, or take a peek into the world of custom bike builders..etc. There really should be more out there in TV land on biking than just a few road races.

Definitely agree with all of that. You'd probably have to get the Collective guys to video the traveling show, though Then it'd be beautiful and entertaining! Even going around to the races and stuff. I dunno. You'd think ESPN or one of the sport's channels would get more interest in bike racing than in bowling (seriously).

I can also be available for the traveling show

The day I discovered his blog, I went back and read nearly all of the archives. Great stuff.
