I got a late start this morning and missed the Fully Loop ride so I decided to log some longer miles on the roadie today. I took pix with the camera phone, but can't figure out how to transfer them to my PC.
The ride was a good one. 95 miles and 10K of climbing. Left Fontana and rode up Mt Baldy all the way to the lifts. Lots of people up there, but not many boarders or skiers. Cruised back down and got stuck behind a police/firetruck line. They had the helicopter there doing a rescue, but I never found out what happened. I got like 3 different stories, so I'll just let that one go till we find out what really happened. Continued on Glendora Ridge Rd, but had to go around the barricades. On the way down I thought "Cool, no cars". Wrong! I was hauling arse downhill but was still on my side of the street when a Forestry truck came around the corner in my lane. He hit his brakes and I hit mine. I was able to clear him by a pretty good margin, but it sure got the adrenalin flowing. Lots of ice still up there and snow on the shaded side. I came up on what I thought was just wet road and as soon as my tire hit it, I went down. Fortunately I was thinking there could be ice, so I caught myself somewhat and just hurt my wrist a little and tore another pair of shorts. From GRR I went down East Fork to the bottom of the canyon and I have to say there's a lot more climbing then I thought to get out of there. There were lots of people down in the fourwheel drive/ATV area. I watched as they tried to pull a quad out of the water with a wench. Kind of funny they pulled the bars off some how with cables still attached? Now comes the hard part to believe. I never got lost and this was the first time I did it this way!!! Maybe STJunkie and Steppie are starting to wear off on me. All in all, a very fun ride with only one break. Ride time was a little long, but there was a lot of climbing.7 hours 15 minutes. Temps were even on the cool side while up top, and while descending but about perfect riding temps. Butterfield Double Century only 6 days away!
