el dooder, this conversation was in no way, whatsoever directed at you. this was directed at Chariots of Tire who asked for a real argument. It was the realest one I could give. My life. And an argument I get tired of having.

And yes, this topic got way off. Sorry for the highjack.

No I do not agree with it. I do not believe that it is Nature, but rather Nurture. It is learned in one way or another.
If you are an educated person then you will agree that we are chemical beings who make up is dictated by minute variations in our chemical make up.
Eye color, skin type, personality, propensity for cancer, what your tongue can taste, hair, toe length, educational aptitude, etc.
The human body shows variation in every single facet.
Why then do you believe that sexuality is the one feature that is only black or white?

Our legislation regarding car-bicycle accidents should be much more aggressive. The penalty needs to be higher...this lady was DUI and KILLED someone while doing it. That should be a life sentence at the bare minimum IMO...you take a life, you owe a life in return.

Totally. Let the punishment fit too. I'll drive the truck...

Unbelievable how she only got 10 years even with a prior suspension for DUI.

That bitch should have gotten more time than 10.5 years. She should have been charged with 2nd degree murder which carries a minimum 10 years. 22 years is the maximum and 16 is presumptive. Even vehicular homicide has a 15 yr max in AZ. She should have been sentenced at least 15 years IMO. Oh, and Idiots of Tires, you're wrong.

If she had hit a pedestrian on a sidewalk who knows what would have happened? When it's a cyclist it's like it doesn't matter.

Reminds me of that thread from a week or so ago with the link to all of the stories from Nor Cal/Monterrey area.

Truly. I live in an area where on any given day there are 20-100 cyclists roaming the streets (this is only the amount that I see, I don't even drive much)...I've gotten used to sharing the road. Sure, roadies piss me off from time to time, but the punishment needs to fit the crime. I don't think justice was served in this case.

Speckledtrout, DownHillPhill, Scheky, and anyone else who has added to the tangent.
My Appoligies to anyone offended. That is not the intention and never has been. I mean no offense to anyone and you are right that Personal Experience is a trump. No one can argue with PE.

As I stated before, I am done with this part of the thread.

The real issue here is that an innocent person lost his life because of an idiot behind the wheel. It should be harder to get one's Drivers License and there should be harsher punishment for senseless acts like this.

DownHillPhill - That truck makes Mad Max look tame.

Anyone heard anything about that girl got killed on Santiago canyon?
Thank God justice is served and while serving her sentence, maybe she will actually FIND remorse for the horrible death she caused. I'd have more "forgiveness" for her had it been an accident.....but she was driving under the influence....for a 2nd TIME - it's inexcusable!

Which girl on Santiago Canyon Rd, I believe there have been more than one in the past year.

My friend Christy Kirkwood was killed there on November 28, 2007. She and another friend Deb (db250f) had just jumped over the gate coming out of Whiting Ranch heading toward Modjeska Grade - just clipped in to take off and a car swerved into the bike lane...that guy was on his CELL phone!!! We just recently (on the anniversary of her death) had a memorial ride to the the crash site, after many long hours of work done by Carrie Harden - sister Trail Angel - and others, there is now a YELLOW CAUTION sign at the crash site to provide awareness to drivers to share the road with cyclists. In the picture are other Trail Angel sisters - Kim Chappel and Anne Hjelle, and Christy's son (red shirt/white shorts).

Vickie,
I am truly sorry for the loss of your friend. I've only been riding for a short time, but I have become so much more aware whats around me when I'm driving. This and the NorCal/Monterey thread a few weeks ago, have opened my eyes to the danger riders face when riding road or just heading to the trail head.
Thank you for sharing this.

All I saw was a French name. I think she was generalizing in her own super-intelligent way.

I'm not gay or French.

This is a mountain biking forum, and sexual orientation is not the issue. That being said, you are wrong in your understanding. Sexual orientation is not learned, you are born with it. Do some serious research before you contend otherwise. Your belief is not the same as scientific evidence.
