So, for all of those on the mend, at least it's not Spring or Summer. You could be missing out on a lot more riding.
I thought of that very thing Friday when it was pouring rain. It's one of the only things keeping me sane. If it was sunny and 70 degrees outside, I probably would've gone against the doc's orders by now.

I also keep getting the VERY BAD IDEA to pop The Collective or ROAM in the DVD player. So far I've been smart and haven't.

It was actually The Collective and Roam that convinced me to buy a big bike...

further updates:

wife is back to being able to hold the kiddo with the previously broken arm.

dad actually made it down to The Path parking lot sale yesterday and was eyeing the great rack of full-squish 29er goodness (turner, ellsworth, ventana)

will he be back on the bike? this remains unknown...

A couple of days later, I went out for lunch and rode the San Clemente single tracks and kept feeling little twinges during the ride... but nothing too bad... until later that day, I couldn't straighten up... the people at work thought I was trying out for the role of The Hunchback of Notre Damne! Went to the chiropractor and had an adjustment that could be heard three counties over. Felt better for about 30 minutes. Then wham-o, frozen back. Luckily for me, the weekend has been a non-riding weekend with Christmas decorations and other chores to do & the back is slowly healing... little by little...

Let me repeat: Getting old is a bitch!

All too true... there are some distinct benefits to a bad back ... although life's really a bitch when your wife is suffering from a bad back too ... old age horniness is the mother of invention.... he he he he ...

PS: the back is much better today!

Gregg, Sorry to hear about your back. Missed you at the party this Sat. I'll be doing trail work this Sat. My knees are still sore, so I haven't ridden much, but it'll pass and I'll be ready to resume training on the 22nd with Holy Jim Loop. Hope you're ok by then.

Not sure how the back will be for the trail work on Sat... if I'm going to wreck it again, it will be on the bike... not holding a shovel or a McCoud. We had several parties to go to last Sat & Nancy had the last word on where we were going... 35 years of marriage has taught me well.... See you soon!

You sure you don't want to ride from Hemet to Idyllwild instead?

I'm going to take some Holy Jim rookies up so they know that route. All veterans welcome as well, but this will not be a hammerfest. The vets can always bag the peak if they bored. I won't hammer, my knee joints ares still sore. I'll need to be mellow so it doesn't get worse.

Leave the single speed in the barn ... rest the knees!

Missed yet another STR funciton this weekend.

Got really ill Friday and bailed early.
Just now getting back to work.

I've been sick off and on since before Thanksgiving and have missed a lot of rides, and now a fun race due to it.

I'm side-lining myself 'till I get a grip on this and get healthy. Riding isn't helping it. Going in for a work-up next week at my doctors. Prolly just some nasty virus I picked up here at work that won't die all the way or something....

Sorry 'bout flaking on the rides and race everyone. Pretty much beyond my control though. I'm pretty disapointed about missing this weekend as I was really looking forward to it.

Stay healthy everyone,

-kevin.

Sorry to hear that this crud won't leave you alone.
Sometimes rest and drugs are the only things that work.

Thanks mate-

Seems I have a juicy little bacterial infection, upper and lower respritory tract. Compliments of the cold, trying to maintain some form etc.

So- I'm on pills for now.......no pedaling, direct sunlight, booze, etc. Two weeks minimum.

As an asthmatic, I'm susceptible to these things at times now that I'm older, esp when surrounded by fat, sick disgusting office workers. Right now it's kinda like sucking air through a pinched straw fulla snot.
God I hate working indoors!

I'm out for the SRC Winter series. Sorry gang, I really wanted to make the show at least once with you all, feel the rush and tingle again of toe'ing the line and get my a** kicked by some of my heros.
But no air in means no power out.

Am I a little disapointed? Sure.
But hey- in light of everything that's happened in the past year? Just a small hic-up and I'm still learning what my 'new body' and one-and-a-half-legs can take.

I'll re-focus on Rim Nordic. I really want to do at least one more race before packing it in for good, and not 'gutting it out' either, but performing. That's my goal and it'll make my 'recovery' complete.

The point here is for everyone on the mend-

Never quit, never give up. Lance's mom said that. He didn't quit and well...you know the story.

Go for it if you can.
Realise your limitations and do the best you can with the tools you have.
Even if you can't perform as you once did, performing at all can be a Victory in itself.
Never loose hope- cuz if you think you have a chance, you do.

Be it racing or cow-trailing, every Ride is a Gift.

C-ya soon!
