Talking ankle problem question.

I twisted my ankle a few days ago on my other passion!!! Well it felt more like I pulled too much when I’ve made a step so it felt like something pulled and stretched too much with a cracking noise. So the day after that little incident I go riding thinking everything was OottayyY!! So while I was climbing this lame hill (that kills me all the time) I get this freaking killer pain from my ankle while I was pulling down on the petal (with the clipless shoe). The only way I can describe the feeling was like something was pulling between my ankle from the inside. From the middle to the foot stayed down by the petal while the rest of my leg was pulling upwards. Now don’t get exited @ all b/c it wasn’t as bad as it sounds but U get the idea. It felt crazy and I’ve never felt this before in my short time riding these bike things!! Now for the question part of this shietsnit!!

Has anyone here that rides single (speed) and/or on clipless petals has ever had this happen to or heard anyone with the same crazy story? I’m not really worried but just want to hear what other cats have to say about it. ThankSS much and paaalaaaaahhbraaaa!!!

Anytime you tweak the ankle like that, the first thing you should do in short order is ibuprofen, ice and rest. Nobody wants to put a big old cold bag of ice on their ankle, knee, elbow or whatever, but the benefits are huge. It reduces the swelling, the cold drops the temperature, inducing greater blood flow to the injured area and the pain subsides.

You'd benefit by doing it tonight or as soon as possible a couple of times a day. If it hurts with clicking and other funny deals, besides just muscle soreness, you may have to see a Doctor, because that starts to involve ligaments and joints. Ice it, rest up a couple of days and then test it out. The ibuprofen will also reduce the inflammation as well.

Take it from me, I was the crash-king of the High Desert and finally learned better. Once a couple of years ago, after casing an ankle on a ride, I stopped at a liqour store on the way home, picked up some IPA's and a five pound bag-o-ice. Dropped some ibuprofen from my in-car first aid kit, and then drove home with the bag of ice on top of my accelerator foot (carpet be damned!)

Good luck and let us know, how it goes!

I used to have ankle problems when I was playing 2-man beach vball. Sounds like you may have tore a ligament. Like STP said you need ice and rest and some Ibu thats about all you can do. Lots of beer may help too after you have applied the rest

it is never a good idea to put a lot of strain on injured connective tissue. you might tear something. torn tendons and ligaments take MUCH longer to heal/fix (not to mention possible surgery)

take it easy on it, don't dig a deeper hole!
thanks much dood!! i have been taking it easy this past week. NO rides and whent easy on practice so maybe today I go for a little loop action!! still gonna chill and try to let it heal a bit!! this sure sucks ballss b/c I'm not really injured but really cant do the normal thing! ohh well!!

oh another thing if you are going to ride on it which i am sure you will be doing get yourself an ankle brace. they have slim ones at most sporting goods stores and they will help keep your ankle from rolling over and hurting it more.

justin has a very good point. when i sprained my ankle in the beginning of the year, i took a month off to let my ankle heel up. I have been riding with an ankle brace ever since so i lessen the chances of reinjuring it again although it can still happen.

in times like this, it would sure be nice to just be able to sit down and pedal huh

I've had 2 physical therapists (1 for my back and the other for my achilles tendonitis) explain to me that the IB was a curative as well and to take it on a consistant basis. I guess keeping the swelling down, along with the ice and elevation, etc. helps it heal. I know it's hard to do it all and I'm not a good patient but maybe you will listen better than I did.

I think you're just getting old.

It sounds like you've found a good physical therapist though. I've heard 12 oz. curls can cure just about anything.

Always seek professional help in a situation like this

I sprained both my ankles one year a part. I ended up stretching the ligaments when the ankle rolled over. I ended up having to wear an ankle brace for a year afterward. The best one I've found is the 661 RACE BRACE PRO.
