The Sho-Air note says it happened yesterday, but I'm not seeing it on the OC Register or LA Times sites. Anybody know where it happened or how?

Healing vibes and best wishes to Yoshio.

There is a story at the Daily Bulletin.

UPDATE: Bike rider seriously injured in Ontario traffic collision

A friend just visited Yoshio at the hospital. Broken pelvis, possible ruptured stomach, still in a coma. Waiting to find out extent of brain injuries. MRI was this morning.

Yoshio's one of the nicest guys around, and a fantastic bike rider. He took 3rd this past weekend at Fontana in his first pro race. He's been known to remove the granny ring on his bike because it slows him down.

Quote:
A 24-year-old man riding a bicycle was seriously injured Thursday when he was hit by a vehicle at an Ontario intersection.

The man, who has not been identified, was wearing a helmet, said Ontario police Officer Craig Ansman.

About 5:10 a.m., the man on the bike was going northbound on Etiwanda Avenue approaching Airport Drive.

When he approached the intersection, there was a vehicle stopped in the left turn lane, about to turn onto Airport. The bike rider went around the vehicle to make a left turn and was struck by another vehicle going southbound on Etiwanda.

The man on the bike had major head trauma and was transported to a local hospital, Ansman said.

The driver of the pick up truck was not injured, but police arrested him on an unrelated outstanding warrant for a misdemeanor, Ansman said.

Police said the traffic collision was the bicyclist's fault for failing to stop at a red arrow.

Anyone with information about the traffic collision can call Ontario police Officer Marshall Martinez at 909-395-2001.

I raced with Yoshio in the CAT 1 19-24 and I wish him a speedy recovery. Through racing, I have gotten to know Yoshio as a competitor and as a person. Hang in there man.

Sorry to see that it was the cyclist's fault this time. Best wishes also to the driver - that has got to be some emotional trauma to deal with.

Update from Mark Scheetz.

Quote:
Dear team members, Yoshio was seriously injured in an accident while riding to work yesterday morning. He is currently in a partially induced coma with severe head trauma. Other injuries include a fractured hip and punctured bladder. His hip and abdominal injuries are stabilize but the doctors are concerned about brain injury. Last I heard he was scheduled for an MRI at 10 this morning.
Jeanne and I are heading out to Arrowhead Regional this afternoon. I'll keep everyone posted on his condition and family needs as we learn more.
On Sunday morning we are planning a solidarity ride out to Arrowhead Regional. Details will follow.
Keep him in your prayers.

I've only spoken to him once or twice at races. He is a genuinely nice guy.

Best wishes.
