This is terrible. I hate riding amongst distracted, self centered, anxiety filled, stupid ass, blind drivers.

May the Lord have Mercy upon him, his family and friends. May the Lord be the author of his recovery.

Yes, it is terrible, yes I hope for a speedy recovery, and yes... I will be the one to point out... read the report... it wasnt the drivers fault. Rider made an illeagal turn on a red......Not the drivers fault, in this case anyways...

Still I do hope for full and speedy recovery, never like to see anyone hurt.

We rode out to Arrowhead Regional to visit him today. Still no real updates. It's my understanding that they have done some brain/head surgery and removed a tube that was relieving pressure in his skull. Now we are waiting for him to wake up. He is starting to move slightly and has been wiggling his legs.

Coates Cyclery in Pomona posted some info about Yoshio on their Facebook page. You can visit the page at http://www.facebook.com/coatescyclery and follow updates there.

Quote:
As many of you know, our dear friend and teammate Yoshio Garcia was involved in a bicycle accident involving a pickup truck while riding to work early Thursday morning, January 14. Although he was wearing a helmet, he has sustained severe head trauma, and has been diagnosed with Diffuse Axonal Injury, a serious brain injury.

As of this post, Yoshio remains in a coma under the observation of the good doctors of the intensive care unit at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton. Yoshio’s prognosis is unclear; we are told that there is no way to know the extent of his brain injuries until the doctors are safely able to revive him. For that reason, we thank you for your continued prayers on his behalf.

In the last few days, we have been inundated with questions regarding Yoshio’s condition, his care, and the means by which we all can help. We will be updating our status as the situation progresses in order to ensure that all of Yoshio’s friends remain appropriately informed.

Because Yoshio does not have health insurance, and because numerous people have asked us how to contribute to his care, we have set up a savings account at Citizens Business Bank to help with his potential medical and rehab costs. Anyone wishing to offer financial assistance for Yoshio is encouraged to send a check in any amount, made out to the Yoshio Garcia Medical Fund, to Coates Cyclery at 760 E Foothill Blvd. in Pomona, 91767.

Again, we thank you for your continued support and concern for Yoshio, whose friendship and talent have been an inspiration to us all. We hope to report better news in the days and weeks to come.

Just letting everyone know that there will be a ride to support Yoshio on Saturday, February 20, 2010.

Link to the ride on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/event.php?eid=291873988007&ref=nf

Text from the same page:

Yoshio Garcia, our close friend and teammate, has been in the hospital since being hit by a car on his way to work on January 14.

After two tense weeks in intensive care, he has stabilized considerably but remains in a coma with serious brain injuries. Because Yoshio does not have health insurance, we are asking you, our fellow cyclists, to contribute to his medical fund as you are able.

Coates Cyclery is hosting this ride in order to help raise sufficient funds to ensure that Yoshio can continue to receive the best care and rehabilitation possible. We
believe in Yoshio’s strength of body and strength of spirit.

We believe that Yoshio will heal. We believe, so we ride.

Road Ride:
25 mile loop through Pomona, Walnut, Covina, & San Dimas (Keep in mine it’s a fun ride and there will
be re-group points)

Mt. Bike Ride:
This will be a no-drop ride from the shop for a counter-clockwise loop through Bonelli Park. we will ride from the shop through La Verne on surface streets to the trail head @ Bracket Air Field. Once everyone is accounted for, we will head back to the shop where the ride will
end as all rides should - with tacos and refreshments.

MORE INFO @ (909) 624-0612
A MINIMUM OF $20 DONATION WILL BE REQUIRED
YOU WILL RECEIVE A T-SHIRT & WATER BOTTLE
WILL BE ABLE TO ENJOY SOME TACOS & REFRESHMENTS AFTER YOUR RIDE!

Heartfelt prayers for Yoshio and his family and friends - may he be blessed with a full recovery. Prayers also for the driver dealing with the trauma as well - it can't be easy.

Hi Tom. Just so I understand this correctly we'll have a choice between a MTB ride and road ride on the same day from Coates?? I hope there's a big turn out. This is a great idea to help out Yoshio.
