Nick is truly blessed to have friends and complete strangers that care have shown up to CHOC to donate their blood and platelets. It's an awesome site to see. The updates recently were hard to hold back the tears when the nurse turned down the sedatives and he opened his eyes for a little bit
Thank you

Here is an update from Teri: Dr Hayat, one of the Intensivists on Nick's case, came in to see Nicholas this morning. He was smiling and pleased with the progress. He said " Nicholas is one of our prized possessions. We love him, we all know about him, but we want him to go home. He can come back to visit

I'm A positive blood and I'd be happy to give. It might be too soon for me to give though, since I just donated a few weeks ago.
EDIT: Just realized I've been sick this past week.

I'm O Positive, the "universal donor." Please find out if I can donate platelets, but ask regarding the following: I grew up in Congo, central Africa and was there before 1977. Consequently, the local Red Cross has always told me I cannot donate blood whenever there are blood drives; concerns re: diseases and AIDS. For the record, I've had numerous blood tests for life insurance policies and there are no issues. Find out if they'll take my platelets, and I'd be happy to help. Thanks Jeff |

Hi Jeff, my buddy went and donated and it seems the only thing they were concerned with was whether you spent time on a farm in the UK...they're really concerned about mad cow disease!
Typically if the Red Cross says no then i'm not sure if you can do platelet either. There's a number that was posted to the UCI Medical Center donation center that will prescreen you if that helps Jeff. Thank you for your generosity! Quote:

Update: My appointment is scheduled for Saturday, February 20 with UCI.
Do we know how long Nick is expected to need donations? Let me (us?) know, as I may then go ahead and schedule another appointment two weeks after 2/20. |

Blood Drive for Nicholas UCI Medical Center Blood Donor Center is doing a blood drive for Nick. UCI will provide the personnel along with the Bloodmobile and It would be preferable if we could work directly with the UCI Blood Donor Center and not through The Red Cross since UCI was nice enough to dedicate staff for this cause to benefit Nick directly. The contact information for UCI is as follows: Teresa Bewley 949-842-7286 cell / 714-456-5913 office. Chapman University is also coordinating a blood drive to benefit Nicholas. NICK'S BLOOD TYPE IS A POSITIVE. Wednesday, February 3, 2010 8:41 PM, CST Health Update Nicholas has been moved from the ICU to a step down unit. He is still being monitored but is off the vent! It is a temporary move until another room opens up. The lungs are progressing. He is in room 5621. We will have some more info from the oncology Doc's shortly. They have been reassuring it will be good news. I have had so many wonderful people contacting me asking how to donate money to the Nick and the Reed Family. There are also others having charity events and want to know where to send the proceeds. I am going to post this information below for anyone that needs it. This is a non-profit foundation setup for Nick so all donations are tax-deductible. If you have questions about this, feel free to contact me- Danielle at dan@webcasa.com. Here's the name & address: Drive ALL Out Foundation c/o Duncan & Associates 245 Fischer Ave. Suite A1 Costa Mesa, CA 92626
