Default Rotator Cuff

For the last 10 days or longer my arm/shoulder has been really sore (some days are better then others). Last night I was awoken 4 or 5 times because of the pain. So this morning I broke down and let my wife take me to Urgent Care. Preliminary diagnosis is a torn rotator cuff. But the doctor told me I had some other issues that would need to be looked at. Seems I have a slipped disc in my neck that could be dangerous. He's having a specialist look at it Monday and then they'll call me with a more detailed plan of action.

This is a real bummer. I'm starting a new business and need both arms. I sure hope they can fix this quickly.

I had rotator cuff repair surgery on February 2nd and was on the road bike mid April (Dr. did not know), then back on the mountain bike mid may. It's been almost a year and I am finally to the point where I feel no pain and I am able to sleep on the side I had the surgery on. It takes a while to completely heal.

Good Luck!

Hope you like to hike! Did a lot of that and really enjoyed it.

Fortunately, I love hiking so that should help. About 25% of people over 60 have no rotator cuff anyways.(worn away) It's an injury where if you're young they can fix it but if you're 50+ you pretty much have to live with it. I will find out what exercises will work best for me from PT and hopefully that'll get me by.

I'm more concerned about work and how I'll be able to get the job done as I'm a hands on type of guy.

I can probably fix my bike to take away any strain on my rotator cuff.

Heal quick Mike... In the meantime, I've been itching to do a little hiking/scrambling. Perhaps we can do a hike in my secret canyon out on the far side of Apple Valley... it's pretty cool and it's a good time of year for it (snakes are hibernating).

Thanks everyone.Nancy that's a big help, I went ahead and ordered the tape but I'll still go to PT and see what they have for me. Doc says I can ride the stationary bike but to keep weight off the arm. It does seem to be getting better already. I was also told I have bone spurs and they are leaning towards the surgery side but I'm not a fan of this. I'll find out more when I go to see my doctor again next week.
At least now I'm only waking once or twice during the night. They gave me pain meds but they're to strong even when I cut them in half so I'm just taking 800mg of Ibuprofen, and that gets me through the day.

I went to PT first and when it didn't get better they did the MRI and then surgery. I had many tears and it was 4cm retracted. Had I not gotten it fixed it would have completly retracted and not been usable.

It became weaker and weaker and after a trip to Whistler and one jarring experience on a wood feature, I could no longer lift my arm. That was the final straw.

I bought the books to help out with rehab after the surgery and after I had completed Physical Therapy. It became "After therapy" which I am thankful for. There is truth to the "managing your own health" train of thought.
