God, that scares me so much. I've ridden Rock-it well over a hundred times as well and I keep going faster (I finally got the nerve to look down at my speedo the other day and I was doing 22MPH). Hearing that Ken was a similar rider and what has happened just makes me want to give it up! I actually was climbing up Rock-it on Saturday and hurt my back just trying to get back on. This also has reminded me that I'm not a kid anymore. I don't think any of us are. I hope he starts doing better. Best wishes again Ken!

This is just awful. I'll be fervently praying for your friend and his family. Please keep us posted and let us know if there is anything we can do for his family through this very trying time. Is there an address we can send cards?

I hear you. I do the same on the rock garden section but after this, I think, I will slow down a bit. As you said, we are not getting any younger and it's very easy to get complacent on a trail you've ridden sooo many times.

All the best to Ken on a speedy recovery!!!

You'll stay safe and respect the trails.

He will stay in an induced coma for anywhere from 1-2 weeks until the swelling in his brain subsides. His family (wife and kids, mom, dad, sister, niece, nephew, pastor from his church) are all there.
Be sure and post when Ken can hopefully receive visitors. I know that he has a long healing road ahead. I'm sure there are some of us that can spend a few minutes with Ken when he's able...to let him know that he has a lot of friends in our tribe that are concerned... that when one goes down like this... we all care.

Thanks!

Couple of guys (Shawn and Dave I think) who were coming up Rockit called 911 for us. Paramedics & firemen were on the scene in about 15 minutes. Then the chopper showed up and flew him away.
I went to the hospital to check on him and he was in the ICU with a skull fracture and a broken pelvis. His wife is there with him.

And yes, he has good insurance...

Send some healing vibes and prayers his way please!!

Peace -
Man this is a gut wrenching story and I don't even know him. Is there any update on Kens condition and how his family is holding up. I'm glad he has great insurance so atleast he'll get the medical care he requires. My question is...Is there anything we can do for him or his family? Riding is dangerous we just never think it's gonna happen to us. This is one of the most chilling post I've read. Maybe cause I'm older now and not willing to take the same risks I did 20 years ago or maybe like you have ridden RockIt & Lynks many times. I've been following this story and hoping for a great update that he's going to be fine. As many said he and his family are in our prayers. I'm just wondering if there is anything that we at STR can do for him as a group. God bless.

I always bomb right through that rock garden at 10/10th's. No brakes right down the center of it. I never really gave it a second thought. Because of the way the rock formations are if you do go down there you will be applying max pressure to whatever part of your body makes contact with the ground first. No doubt this is what happened to Ken. Man it could have happened to any of us that ride this section.

Bone chilling realization this. It's very easy to get complacent with the trails that you ride a ton. Ken's wreck will be a big wake up call to me to make sure I dial it back a notch on that section.

we're pulling for you Ken.

What makes this so chilling is that most of us have gone down Rock-It... we all know that trail... many of us have left blood on that trail (I think it has a quart of mine)... this could have happened to anyone of us.... everybody crashes.... not a matter of if, only when. Scary to think that anyone of us could be in Ken's place right now ... your whole life change in the blink of an eye. It's something that most of us just don't want to really think about. I see the concern in Ranger Nancy's eyes evertime I tell her I'm going for a ride... just something that we all live with.... that and the scars .... and great memories.

Let's keep Ken in our prayers...

Oh man - I am so sorry to hear about that. I remember you and Ken from a few years back when you borrowed some EVOs to go up to Whistler. I am thinking it is the same Ken. My friend also recently was in the ICU after a face plant at Del Cerro. I will pray for a smooth recovery for Ken.
