Default Rider down, your help needed

On Saturday, August 9th I was traveling north on Santiago Canyon Road on a CF Giant XTC hardtail. I was riding between Black Star Canyon and Peters Cyn. on my way home to Irvine. Just past the entrance to Irvine Lake at about 11:30 AM, the lights went out. I have a vague recollection of a gray truck passing dangerously by my left side. I woke a few days later in Western Medical and spent about 3 weeks in the hospital with a severe head injury. Fortunately I was wearing a helmet. I am still recovering and now have blurry vision as a result. But I am healing!

If anyone saw this incident, please respond to this e-mail. There were no recorded witnesses and any information you have would be helpful.

TIA,
Randy

I am on my way back to being OK. I am still grounded by my dr. Full recovery is expected, but not sure of the timing. These things heal at their own rate.

Thanx for responsing.

That is exactly why I am terrified to ride on the road with cars! Scary! How does a person sleep at night knowing they hurt or possibly killed someone and didn't even stop? WTF?? Prayers and positive vibes to to you, get well soon! Hopefully the person responsible will be found and held accountable

+1 on that. I don't understand how people can this type of crap and sleep at night.

I hope you get well soon and are able to get back on your bike.

Wow. That is unbelieveably F'd up. So that was it hu? Riding, then nothing, then hospital?

I don't mean to sound morbid, but had it been your last ride ever...where were you coming from and was it an awesome ride up till then?

Hope you get better soon. Shoot us a post when you get on the bike again and we'll do a solidarity ride with you!!

Get better soon! That's a terrifying story and I can't imagine the fustration you may have. But I'm glad to hear you're alive and will recover fully.

I ride Santiago Canyon Rd quite a bit too and every time I read a story like yours it makes me reconsider it.

Perhaps make a posting on Craigslist and maybe stick some flyers up along Santiago Canyon Road in that area. I'm out of town this weekend but PM maybe I can put flyers up next week with your contact info. Actually flyers would be hard to read for cars going 50mph+ on that street. Maybe a big poster by the Silverado Canyon Turnoff? Anyone know if it's okay to post something there?

That's assuming they were even aware enough that they did it (AKA Drunk/Drugs/Asleep), which in some ways makes it even more scary.

Have you made a police report? Have you contacted the press? The best course of action right now is to get the word out to as many people as possible.

Hopefully you have already posted this on MTBR and RideMonkey. Try contacting the OC register to see if they will put something in the paper for you. David Whiting, a colummist for the outdoor section, is a member of this site. Try PMing him to see if he can put something in the paper for you.

Heal up, bud. I got hit by a car a couple of weeks ago so if there is anything I can do, or if you need anything, let me know.

Get it out there! Get this a$$ hole to justice! I can't even hit a squirrel without stopping and seeing if it's ok, I can't imagine leaving a person!
