Default Airlifted out of El Morro

Lorabee and I were riding in LCWP today at 10:30 or 11 and saw somebody airlifted from ElMo Ridge. It's always such a bad thing to see!

Does anybody here know what happened?

Oh, I asked right there at the scene, and the downed riders friend said she was not part of the ride. Maybe she misunderstood me.

I will say, that the medical chopper guys were very amazing, when the life alert dropped the firemen guys off he basically set down and balanced on one skid. I know nothing about flying helicopters but I know that guy was a pro.

Hope she gets well soon.

Any concerns of neck injury no matter how small will see an airlift these days, you might seem OK but if you have a hair line fracture in your neck or spine movement like boucing around in a truck could trap a nerve resulting in paralysis. To avoid more damage (and law suits) emergency services are always going to over do it

The Paramedics were definitely concerned about her next, she had some blood on her face, and they were holding her neck still while waiting for the helicopter.

OMR and I were working at the Missing link and had a good view of the helicopters fly over. First a PD copter flew over and then winched some down followed by the medivac helo that landed and flew her out of there. I was told by others that she was riding in the poker ride and went OTB and landed on her face. Hope she's alright.

I took some pics of the rescue.

Police helicopter approaches...,

....then flies over

PD copter drops off paramedic

Medivac helo comes in

Park Ranger arrives...,

....heads toward injured rider

Medivac helo gets low enough

Lifts rider out...

Off she goes...

The rescuers did an awesome job getting her out. Hope she has a speedy recovery.

Just spoke the woman's husband and it looks like she will be OK. She had a bad face plant and they were concerned about broken bones around her eye but the xrays look good. She may be released in a few hours.

Apparently several people called in the incident and three different agencies responded. There were two helicopters, 5 fire units, an ambulance, and a triage unit in the parking lot with computers to keep track of it all.

Thats good to hear, yeah she definitely had blood on her face near her eyes.

On a lighter note, I guess El Moro is the place to be if you take a bad spill, lots of Tax Dollars to support your rescue and Hoag Hospital close by.

Hope it all turns out to be minor.

Glad to hear she is ok....

depending on the conditions(wind) balancing 1 skid on a slope can be very difficult...it's something we train and practice a lot early on it our heli training....

Those guys are amazing.I saw a few medivac pilots make some pick-ups when I was in VietNam.We called them "Dustoffs" over there. They would go in under heavy fire, get their ships all shot up and get the wounded out of there and to a field hospital in a matter of minutes. They also took some heavy casualties themselves! Those guys had big brass balls.Dustoff crewmen also never bought their own drinks.- Lloyd

She is a good friend of mine. I was right behind her when she crashed. It was pretty scary. She was pretty beat up, but luckily no broken bones at all. Pretty amazing! She has some bad bumps and bruises. But she will recover, and was still talking about future rides. Good attitude.
