I feel your pain. I was in Mammoth this past Winter. I was hopping from bar to bar. Later in the night, we decided to hit it and head back to the pad. On our way to the bus stop we decided to play a little ice soccer....Bad idea. I ended up slipping on ice and fell so hard that I heard a cracking noise up my spine. Not good. I almost past out it hurt so bad.

Forward time two weeks. I was out sailing with some friends. During the race we typically roll tack. I tried jumping from one side to the other and this crazy pain numbed my whole body. I started worrying a little because 2 weeks had past. Long story short, it took about a month to heal and for the pain to go away.

I found that the hot tub worked wonders. Combine that with ice and you will be ready to go in no time. Hot to cold to hot works really well.

Good luck on getting better!

so this type of cyst or abcess is not brought on by any impact or injury to that area rather just a hygiene issue?

I just recently wrecked and my right cheek and lower back are sore as to be expected but i want to make sure it's not anything more than that. I'm usually in the shower within a few hours of finishing a ride but perhaps that's not soon enough ?

For all those out there who may be (or have been) similarly afflicted...the best advice I got (considering we're mtb'ers) is to change up and/or wash up right away after you're done with your ride. (Bring baby wipes with you in your bag). A sweaty bum area is no good for those who are prone to the "cysts".

Glad that the antibiotics worked for you. Not everyone has the sinus which allows it to drain...those unlucky folks usually have to have surgery.

It is a coincidence or did this injury happen as soon as your freeloading brit came into town? Just saying. All kidding aside. Hope you're well enough to join us tonight at Roscoe's.

Last thusday night it was extremely painful, but by the time i woke up friday i could barely get out of bed at all, let alone walk. I was nauseated and weak, and literally lay in the shower floor just trying to get the hot water to heat my back up enough that i could move. It had become hard and swollen around the area, ...
thanks for the new sig!

in all seriousness, glad you are doing better!

Actually, it can be either. Impact/injury can cause damage to the hair follice which allow bacteria access to the follicle and then abscess from there. Or, bad hygiene. Or neither, just bad luck.

My experience also is that all of the above seem to be factors.

Sad to hear you went through that. I dealt with it with no antibiotics or doctor. It was in the early days of The Path, and I had no health insurance or money. I missed over a week of work. If Karl were not so sollid, I would have probably lost the shop over it.

I remember trying to do customer service on my cel phone from the bath tub...

I was pretty well taken care of, just not by medical professionals. I think it is a tuff one no matter how you face it.

Thanks

I feel that success is day by day, and sometimes, I don't feel it for days at a time. I still count myself lucky.
