Default If you saw someone get life flight out of Mission that was us.

A rider in our group took a fall and twisted his knee pretty bad and could not ride or walk on it and so the fire truck could not get back there and he got the heli to come get him. This happened about 2 hours ago. He is fine, probably tore some ligaments in his right knee. Going to check on him later tonight.

Ya it was Mission trails, I dont know the of the exact name but Futura wash was pat of it, i think. Then you go up this steep fire road and go down the other side in a gorge. It was on the way down that it happened.

Tell him to take care of the knee. Heal well and we'll see him back on the trails in no time...

Man. glad he's ok. Hopefully he heals up soon so he can run away from that flight bill. My brother got heli'd from an mx track and ot a 12 thousand dollar bill in the mail. Not too sure how he dealt with it but I hope your buddy doesn't get nailed.

With all this life flight business going on lately I have a question. Who pays for it? Does insurance cover this? Good time to read my policy closely.

Yeah, I think I'd crawl out before I let a copter carry me out.

Good question.... I know that on my last surf trip I had to supply proof of medical evacuation insurance, that would bring me home from a remote atoll in the south pacific if the worst should happen.... The insurance wasn't hard to get, and made me wonder about getting a year-long policy. Just a thought....

Or pay someone to carry me out LOL! I was thinking about it, if I was injured in a non life-threatening way and couldnt get out myself, I would be willing to lay there in pain for hours while my buddies ride out and find a few guys whom I'd offer to pay to carry me out. Hell, I'll even pay for a wheelbarrow or a BOB trailer. If you think about it, even if you pay 4 guys $250 each that's only a thousand bucks as to compared to 15-20k???

LOL yeah I'm cheap...

What about a Spot Me with the optional US$8 a year insurance.

http://www.findmespot.com

After working for the largest healthcare/insurance company I can tell you that this usually wasn't covered under any medical benefits.

We never travel out of the country without full travel insurance including evac back to the U.S. and cancellation for preexiisting conditions. Like if my moms pancreatic cancer comes back.

Here are some healing vibes. Busted femurs can have nasty consequences like fat emboli. Hope all is well.

Wow...torn ligaments --> broken femur?!

Talk about a strange change in diagnosis!

Hope he gets better soon. How exactly did he get injured (besides the obvious answer of 'crashing')?

We were heading down a steep section and there were some woops and he misjudged one and went sideways in the air and landed on his hip/knee. I thought it was a ligament b/c he could not straighten his foot to point the sky then I moved his leg to straighten it out and it did not hurt so I thought it was a ligament. I am no doctor but that goes to show what I thought.
