After working for the largest healthcare/insurance company I can tell you that this usually wasn't covered under any medical benefits.

This thread made me think about EVAC.
I phoned my health insurance company, blue Shield HMO.
I asked,;
If I'm mountain biking and fall off a cliff, break a leg and needed helicopter EVAC, am I covered?
They said YES, a $100 co-pay.
What a releif! So now I can stop worrying....

Wow makes you think about how you would handle things if you were in the same situation. What kind of MacGyver type things could you improvise got you buddy out. Like use some branches to lash two bikes together with some shoe laces to make a wheel chair or rolling stretcher.
