I was at Mission today when a chopper landed around 11:30 or 12:00. Every time that happens I wonder if it's a member of the tribe who's fallen.
Healing vibes for a full and speedy recovery.

I've been hearing a lot more of these (broken necks) lately. Perhaps it's time folks start using a neck brace when riding DH as it doesn't take much to break your neck. The Leatt Moto GPX Brace is pretty good (Tani will you be carrying those anytime soon?). Not cheap but definitely much cheaper than medical bills and better than being paralyzed.

A ton of the kids at the BMX track are wearing somethng of that kind. Better safe than sorry, if you get them started early wearing the *gear* they'll wear it forever!

It's always sad to hear of an accident as serious as this seems to be; as much as I can send healing vibes out, I will, along with thought and prayers for Mark and his family.

There were a couple of guys wearing the same sort of neck brace at the Southridge 4x race too. Neck injuries are just plain scary.

What should I put here?

On an interesting but related side note, many of the extreme freeride snowboarding and skiing contests in Europe are no longer requiring full-face helmets as they have in the past. The statistics are showing that broken necks, when the chinguard hits the ground/snow/tree, are more common with a full face.
I could see the same applying to mountain biking in some respects, but on other front, we have more solid objects to hit than snow sports. That said, I still feel more safe at 50+ mph on the snow in a full-face than an open helmet, and the same on the mountain bike on rocky/exposed/steep downhills. Though I rarely ever shuttle stuff so I end up wearing the regular helmet most of the time. (And I'm not likely to be found doing road gaps!) Hard call... risk is risk and we're all taking them. Thoughts go out to the anonymous "mark" victim and his friends and family. Hang in there!
