Default Shin Splints - Mountain Biking

I think i developed shin splints either from the hike-a bike at the sundown sprints or from pulling up hard on my toes. I have to start XC camp on monday. I dont want to mess up my XC season or mtb racing with an injury what should I do???

I used to get shin splints when I played football. As I recall, there's really nothing you can do other than time taking its course. I would imagine pedaling would not aggravate it too much, but ya never know.

Have you been doing anything else out of the ordinary? Shin splints from cycling is pretty uncomon. I get shin splints VERY easily from running (and I mean really easy, if I run a few miles a week my inner leg will begin killing me)

Where on your lower leg is it bothering you?

Matt try riding without clipless for a few rides. A riding friend of mine was told by his doc to do this and it worked for him. He rides flats on most rides now.

try this thing out, its basically a massaging stick. Although you are better, try giving this a shot before every ride to warm up your muscles and the shins. Helped a great deal for me as I got shin splints from volleyball. Not bad with rubbing out Knots on Your calves and thighs also. I use it before and after any activity that may be strenuous and it helps me a great deal.

I suggest it to everyone I know that has any sores and or aches.

Matt... You need to give up biking altogether... in fact, I would recommend just laying around on the couch and watching a lot of TV... Oh, your cured now? Alright, see you on the trail... PM me if you're interested in a killer ride this weekend with S&M.

Well, now that the thread is bumped, what did you do to get rid of the problem. Did it take care of itself?
