Default Vaguely remember something about a chopper

G'day mates. I don't know what good can come from this messsage, other than reminding you to wear your @#$! helmets and to maintain your $#@! bikes.

This is written through the fog of drugs, so please bear with me if this sounds wonky

Yesterday I was riding Southridge to Northridge. The last I remember is coming up on Gilman Peak, the high point, and a generally slow part of the trail.

The next thing I know, I'm asking someone if we're on a helicopter.

The next thing I remember is being in the ER. I also remember a CAT scan... and my wife being in there somewhere... and moving off a gurney and into a bed.

Tonight they let me come home. My face looks like hamburger... no exaggerating. I had a broken nose, another broken face bone, some face meat torn back, and road rash like you will not believe. I had a concussion and can't remember more than I told you.

A couple minutes ago I went down to the garage to look at the bike. The front wheel rim is broken and taco'ed. My helmet it along the brow line, and then it looks like a rolled onto my mace.

Doc says no strenuous activity for six weeks. Man, this hurts bad.

Damn Rob, maybe you don't remember but you and I chatted on my way out from my ride about 1 mile up Telegraph just before Diemer. I looked for you on the Loop this morning - you talked me into the ride!

I'm not that far away - let me know if you need anything........take care and heal quickly!

Holy crap Rob! I hope you heal up soon. It would be interesting to know how someone found you and where if you ever find out. Glad you are ok man.

PM me and I will deliver that Angel's Share to your place when you are off the drugs and allowed to drink again.

I was out there on Saturday from 9-noon. Crazy that I might have been close by wherever you were.

You can be thankful this week that it was not worse. It's bad, but it always can be worse.

Ouch!!! What the hell happened? Just reading your description of the aftermath of a bad fall makes me want to start wearing a FF helmet even for a trip to the grocery store.

Healing vibes to you and hope for a speedy recovery!

Thanks for the encouraging words, folks. The hardest part right now is psychological -- knowing that I'm a hideous freak. And typing isn't all that easy, either. It was interesting being wheeled out of the hospital last night. People would look and then quickly turn away.

When my wife as in ER, I told her to use her cell phone to get pictures. Just because I'm injured doesn't mean I can't have sophomoric humor. The pictures are too graphic for posting here, where children might accidentally run across them. However, if you're twisted enough, you can click here: http://www.rustyiron.com/ugly Bon appetite.

I'll be off work for 2-6 weeks, which I'm sure will not be as glorious as it sounds. I like having time off, but only to do fun stuff. There will be no riding, no playing in the garage, nothing strenuous.

Hi Duke, yes I remember seeing you on the way up. Sorry I couldn't join you and Pugz on Sunday. I'd MUCH rather have been with you guys.

OOWWW, yikes, ugly stick, YUUUCCHHHH, stinking bloody mess, etc.

Rob those pics are terrible. I'm glad you were conscious enough to remember the carnage photos

Two or six weeks out - call if you need help, I'm only a mile away. I could easily come over and un-cork wine for you (no, I don't do lawns)

Take care and heal well!
