Thumbs up Blackstar to Skyline DH & Back

I finally got the ride in that I"ve been trying to do the last couple of weekends! This time there were no shuttle trucks & locked gates http://www.socaltrailriders.org/foru...uttle-not.html , or poor girls with broken collar bones http://www.socaltrailriders.org/foru...ne-almost.html .

Just me and my HOSS after work Wenesday morning!

My route would take me up Blackstar, past Beek's Place & the Golfball, up Main Divide for a mile or two, down one of the Skyline (aka Troy Lee) trails, and back up Skyline, to Blackstar, and back to my car. It ended up being 26.5 miles on my Garmin Forerunner. (thanks CPATCRASH)

The DH was FUN!!

Full of steep chutes, some twists and turns, and a couple of steep up's to break it up.

Enough talk, here's the pics!

Who's this guy, and why are his wheels bigger than mine?

The trailhead

a look back at the golfball from the trailhead

epic DHing

looking back at the first chute

who say's there's no UP in DH?

looking back at what I've gone down so far. Notice the golfball on the right.

It just keeps going....

This chute was steep and soft.

This one was FUN!

and going.....

and going......

steep & loose up close.

one of the last steep chutes before the bottom.

It was well worth the climbing to, and from, the trail.

There are a few more that I still want to check out, so if any of you feel like pedaling up a couple of fireroads to do some epic DH's, just let me know.

I vote to make the Golf Ball the official STR shrine. I love this trail.

Nice RR - sorry I couldn't join in...

How far past the golf ball is the trail head? And is that part of the Main Divide open now?

Maxwell,
Do you have a Garmin? I would love to know the mileage, elevation, and approximate ride time for that ride. I often ride up Blackstar to Pleasants peak, and this might be a good alternate route.

Definitely a must-do by the looks of it.

How is it on weekends? Is it crowded with hikers, hoofers and other riders?

No Problem since Maxwell did it on a hard tail.

It's at the top, and around the corner, and down the side, to over the edge, of the first climb, after the Golf Ball.

Yes, it's open.

Yep, I usually ride it on my hardtail. Nothing really on Skinsuit for a big bike.

I definitely want to try this once I can ride again and after I get back my stamina back. Also happy to hear you can do in on a hardtail since that is all I got.

When are you guys going here again? I live down the street from where the gate is over by Lincoln? Where does it end up after the long downhill?
