The call was put out and only a few hardy souls responded to the call. Friday afternoon J_Sims (Jeff) and TalksWithFoxes (Chip) met me at the Waterworks ready for some hard labor.
After two STR newbie rides the entry of the Waterworks Trail had become a loose mess only rideable by experts on a good day. Plus the entry onto the bridge over the V-ditch was never well thought out. First we documented how everything looked before we started. From below you can see how loose and chewed up the trail had become. It was too steep to be sustainable. The trail needed to be re-routed. The view from the top. Note: You can't even see the bridge below. So after meeting Jeff for the first time we all set to work. First we walked the trail route that made sense. Then we started clearing brushing and doing earthwork to level the trail. This is where the new trail will go. Chip working on the brush. Here I am attacking the hill. Jeff works on the trail. Jeff playing in the dirt. After a few hours it was time to test it out. I got the first time honors. The re-route made the bridge cross much easier. Chip hiking back up to test the new trail. Chip coming down the new trail. Chip cleans the bridge on his first attempt. This trail is working! The upper hairpin is a little tight so Jeff gives it some more work. Then he widens the area past the hairpin. Chip putting the final touches on the upper part. ...to be continued.... KeepsWhatHappens |

Jeff (J_sims) tests out the new trail. Jeff cleans the bridge on his first try. Chip makes some minor adjustments Then I give it another shot. No problemo. Then Chip gives the new trail another go. ...and nails it. Looks like its.... ...Beer-thirty! Thanks Chip and Jeff for busting ass with me to make this trail more sustainable. KeepsWhatHappens |

we thought about that but everything is so dry we probably would have created a sand pit rather than a dug out bermed corner... We need water up there![]()

Wow, that was a lot of work. I really liked the time you took us on that little section. I was thinking then, that the trail would be unrideable and destroyed as soon as the rains come (when they ever do). I still would of liked a couple more attempts at the original way as it was, but I understand the need to make it more sustainable. Thanks for all the hard work, that was a big job.

Rode Tijeras today and the new trail looks great. The bridge is still in the same spot so you can take either line. I wouldnt say the switchback is newbie friendly but definitely easier than the DH option because of how loose it is. Great work on the new trail!
