Since the mountain lion is a specially protected species, if you kill one, even in self-defense, you'll have to answer to the authorities who will decide whether or not you broke the law. I believe this goes too far and places the advantage in the teeth and claws of the mountain lion. I can tell you haven't bothered to look at the link I posted. You can call me a mountain lion hater, and I'll call you a tree-hugging hippie (as you originally requested) and we'll drop this right here. OK?

sorry don't mean to de-rail the thread, but the other day I was hiking with my kid in the Jurupa Mountains (Southridge, Fontana) and we saw one of these guys (long tailed weasel, apparently really common in SoCal):
![]() It crossed the trail right in front of us, stared at us for a while, then took off down some rocks......it was pretty cool.... So I can now add this bad boy to the list of wild-life I've seen in SoCal while hiking/mt. biking but I have yet to see a mountain lion or a bear...

Damn!, I was getting ready to hit T Canyon in a few. I have to admit to being a little spooked.

Rode Turnbull yesterday... (6p-730p)
I read this a while back and I was paranoid about this trail. I finally decided ride the whole loop. Did 7th Ave loop and the single track that led back to friends st. No sightings but a lot of undescribable noises. LOL I stopped worrying when I saw a cute girl on her ipod jogging the singletracks. I believe that in the hierarchy of animal chow, runners before bikers. But I see signs posted up about these cats everywhere, especially the trailhead at JPL.EDIT: I did notice the gate to 7th Ave Loop was locked and there is a big log blocking the ride in entrance left of the beverly gate. |
