Woooooooo!
What ripping good time up there this weekend. It's probably the best Mammoth trip I've had yet. Me and Happy_Gilmore hit the road Friday PM to endure traffic all the way up I-15 to Highway 395. Woke up early Saturday and caught breakfast at the Breakfast Club over by the gas station on the corner of Main and Old Mammoth Road. It's highly recommended. The omelets are fan-f_cking-tastic and biscuits are a meal in itself. After breakfast we rolled up to the main lodge where we geared up and waited for any familiar faces to arrive. No sign of BigRedhit or Pmortuary. We figured there were a no-show so we decide to start our day. As it turns out they arrived moments after we rode up the gondola. After a few runs we spot the boys bombing down Chainsmoke from the bird's eye view of the gondola. Me and Happy_Gilmore tried to catch up with them but so such luck. Happy took a nice header on one of the rock waterfalls. The next lap up the gondola we spot PMortuary, BigRedHit, and his buddy (sorry, I forgot the name) from above as they were scoping out the big rock drop on Techno Rock. I managed to catch up in time to watch BigRedHit and his friend hit the drop. Those two guys made it look easy. I was thoroughly impressed with their hucking skills. In fact, BigrRedHits friend almost cleared the wood ramp on the flow drop. It was nuts. We rode with the fellas the rest of the day. Those guys have some mad freeriding skills. The day was cut a little short on Saturday. They closed down the gondola at about 4:15 due to some freak thunder storm that came out of nowhere. There was a little drizzle and a few claps of thunder but nothing serious. We were having some mechanical problems and we'd had our fill of riding so there wasn't too much of a loss there. Saturday, we awake to perfectly clear skies and rode until about 1:30 then decided to hit the road and get a jump on traffic. Looking down towards the village below. Gotta love 3,000 ft vertical descents. Happy_Gilmore's ride. Me and the Glory(hole) at the top of skidmarks. BigRedHit descending the rock garden on Bullet. Somehow BigRedHit managed to shear the bolt off of his seat post on bullet. Luckily Pmortuary had a spare seat and post that fit the big hit. BigRedHit showing off his battle scars. Compliments of the Kamikaze jump park. Wish I had more pictures but we were having too much fun to stop and take pictures. |

Bighit comming DOWN!!
|
That was the best Mammoth week ever. Although it was only my second trip to Mammoth. Due to work the very next day i will post up pics and vids asap. Big thanks to Dave for the sweeet sleeping deal. Big thanks to Dave, Mark, and Chad showing my buddy and I all the sweet jumps. FLOW Drop was much much bigger in person, and The 10ft Drop at Techno drop was sketchy as hell. Either way i believe we hit up every big jump as possible. More pics to come.....

Nice RR and pics, thanks.
I have been riding XC stuff in Mammoth for 15 years. I'm up there a lot and know the trail network very well. Yesterday, I hit the MTB park for the first time. Holy smokes, how could I have been such a knucklehead and not done this years ago? The park stuff is incredibly fun and addictive in a way I never understood before. I did 6 runs from top to bottom and tried to find a new way down on each run. Even after that, I'm sure that I just scratched the surface as I passed on the x-zones and all the really technical stuff. R |
