Default Teammate for Cape Epic '08

I have a spot for Cape Epic '08 and am looking for a teammate. The race website is www.cape-epic.com. I race in the masters division so ideally I'm looking for someone who is over 40. The race is March 28th to April 5th in South Africa. You will need to be able to pay for your own expenses, registration is about a $1000 plus RT airfare of around $1800. Let me know if anyone has interest and we can discuss it.

Wow, what an adventure this would be. I know a couple of people who've done it.....wish I could.

I will be happy as long as we make the cutoffs each day and we give it all we've got. Placing is not really a concern of mine but it would be nice to at least finish in the top 50% of the Masters age group. My teammate and I finished 21st Place out of 76 teams in the 80+ category of the 2007 TransRockies www.transrockies.com. Unfortunately he is getting married and can't race with me in Africa. The previous year I finished in 25th place out of 83 racers in the Masters category of La Ruta de Los Conquistadores www.adventurerace.com.

If my teammate is under 40 then we would race in the open category and wouldn't place as well but it doesn't really matter.

Once you try one of these multi-day stage races you will be hooked, they are awesome. I'll try and give you an idea of what each day is like. Most everyone sleeps in two man tents with their team mate. All of your gear that you have access to for the week is in a duffel bag that they move along with the tent that they supply to the finish of each stage. You wake up in the morning and eat a buffet breakfast with all of the other racers from around the world. Go back to the tent and pack your duffel bag and drop it off at the trucks. You head to the start line to get staged, loud music's playing, everyone's excited and the gun goes off. What ensues is total chaos for 10-20 minutes until everyone settles into their own pace and the field gets spreadout. There are usually two or three checkpoints along the way to refill your water supply and get a few bars or fresh fruit to eat. Many hours later you cross the finish line and are very relieved that the day is done. The relief is short lived as you need to start preparing for the next day, wash the bike, tune the bike, shower, get a massage, eat some more, and get another massage if you want. There is usually a briefing each night giving you an idea of what tomorrow holds in store for you and then you hang out with other racers that you've met during the race and swap stories. There is much commraderie between all of the racers. If you stop in a town then there is usually time to go exploring before calling it a day and getting some sleep. Repeat the above 8 times. It's awesome!

I may know someone that you could ride with.

No need to sell me on the multi-day thing I've done La Ruta, the Transrockies, Transalp and the Cape Epic (well two days of it...until I broke my hand ).

The races that you have done are my dream list. I'm hoping to get to TransAlps in '09. The other one that I heard great things about is TransPortugal.

I'll look forward to hearing from you about a possible teammate.
