It's been tough to get news on what was affected up at Running Springs and Arrowbear. The last we saw, was the parking lot at Snow Summit packed with fire engines in the pre-dawn hours, last Friday morning. I was pretty much bummed all week long. I've been racing there for years and years and I love the family atmosphere that Bev and Kerry and the rest of the too-cool crew provide!
So I emailed the KNBC reporter, Robert Kovacik, who was reporting from there, this morning and I got a reply back by lunch! How cool is that guy? I told him about our sport and how much we valued that unoccupied ridge across the street from Snow Valley. I also told him, that his reporting was excellent (and it was!). Here's his response: Hi Regis-- thank you for writing and for your kind words. When i left on saturday that beautiful ridge was in tact and i hear, after a few calls, that it is still in tact. So much destruction elsewhere is such a gorgeous setting. Loved learning about Rim Nordic--thanks for that too. Best to you, Robert ![]() ![]() ![]() Yah! I am stoked. If there wasn't a Rim Nordic to race at, I don't know what I'd do. |

Good stuff, that means my favorite trail up there, Exploration could be OK. Have we heard any news of the Keller Peak area?

Fortunately, it only burned to the top of Craft Peak and didn't come down towards the upper fire road. I think that the Butler 2 Fire cleared out a little bit of the undergrowth.
Keller Peak and Exploration seem to have dodged a bullet. The bottom section of Exploration might have gotten a little damage, but I think it might have survived otherwise. The forest service and fire fighters are going to letting us back up on Thursday. It will be nice to be able to go back home after a week and a half of evacs. When we get up there on Thursday, I'll take a look around. It will be nice to get back on the bike at least.

Hi All
Finally got the evac orders lifted on Thursday November 1 and got to return home to see first hand what went on in Running Springs. Good news, Rim Nordic came through with flying colors and it looks like everything is fine there. No damage or carnage there. Exploration Trail is also still intact. The peak that overlooks the bottom section below the fireroad is a bit cooked, but it won't affect the trail at all.
