You're doing the Traverse? Let me know when you do training rides. I'll join ya.

So how are most people training for The Traverse??

Or are you training??

The past month I've been riding a Century on the road once a week. I have a good buddy doing Ironman AZ April 13th so I've been doing his workouts.

I also mountain bike at least once a week.

I've been running and swimming twice a week too.

I think I should have a solid base down. My only worries is I need more climbing workouts, maybe intervals too.

I've been trying to increase my speed by doing more interval type stuff and riding Singlespeed again.

But I've also been eating a lot Mac n' Cheese and steak.

Skippy I think you're totally gonna kill that race. Heck, you're already conditioned for the heat too.

The swimming probably helps out a lot. Thats a great Idea.

Is anyone planning on riding the course anytime soon. I would like to do it within a couple weeks on Sunday morning. Is anyone up for it. I havent done it before so I would like to ride with someone.

The portion of the course between Eagle Rd and Santiago Peak remain closed due to the fire closures.

To get a good taste of what the course is like, you can ride Blackstar to Eagle, and Holy Jim to Trabuco.

I haven't been really doing any hard training. Just riding normally so far. I feel so behind already...

I have been riding to work and back and getting some dirt riding in too. I too have to step it up. Let me know if you are up for a ride. I will be out there soon.

Where do you go if you miss the cutoff at
(1) Four Corners
(2) Lower Holy Jim

It would make sense to
(1) Go down to Maple Springs (but it's closed)
(2) Go down Lower Holy Jim (no climbing needed)
but neither option is the staging area.

Web page quote below ----

You must reach Aid Station 1 located at the intersection of Maple Springs Road and the Main Divide Road (4 corners) by 11:00 a.m. to be allowed to finish the course. You must also reach the intersection of the Main Divide and Lower Holy Jim by 12:30 p.m. to be allowed to finish the course.
If you do not make the cutoff times and refuse to return to the staging area you have violated the terms of your participation and the Warrior's Society will no longer responsible for your safety. Your emergency contact will be called and notified that they will be assuming all responsibility your safety.

Like the VQ/CC, Maple will be open for the participants. There will be support at Maple Springs. HJ is the cutoff and you will bail there. As far as staging area, I will notify our webmaster to have that fixed.

My buddy and myself made it up to Beaks place in about an hour and a half yesterday from the gate at Blackstar. He is brand new to mountain riding, but in good shape. Will this pace be fast enough to make the first cutoff?

We went another 3 miles after beaks, which is much steeper, but he did just fine on that part too, just a little slower on the steeps. Was a warmish day, but could be much warmer the day of the ride. Happy training....

The main divide climbs from Beek's to 4 corners are rolling, but the overall the climbs are steeper and looser than Blackstar.

B/c of the fire closure you can't pre-run the course. But I can go from gate to gate on Blackstar in around an hour and change. Mix in the possible heat in May... I'm very worried about making the cut offs.
