That would mean the cutoff is only 1 hour shorter. I could definitely deal with that. Unless its a typo because it has not changed on the website.

You are correct. The cutoff was dropped by 1 hour from last year.

The cutoff to 4 corners is 2 hrs shorter. Last year the race started at 6am, the cutoffs was at 12 noon to 4 corners and 1:30 to Holy Jim. Now its at 11am and 12:30 with a start time of 7am, that's 2 hrs shorter.

OOOPs, missed the change to the start time.

Makes this race way tougher. 4 hrs to 4 corners from Black Star on the Pain Divide is no gimme.

It took me exactly 4 hours to make it to four corners last year on my singlespeed. The toughest part for me was from the motorway to four corners. I think I walked/pushed my bike for 50% of that stretch. The climbs where to steep and loose for me

As of today 11-6-07 The Traverse is over half sold out. Registration has been open since 11-1. If you plan on registering, I would not hesitate. It may be sold out by the time you decide.

Until they open a "Turtle" category, with a 3 hour early start, I'm sticking to volunteering (if they need it)

I'm with you Rachel. Especially since I can't get out there and time myself. Good luck to all who are racing. June eh? I hope you all get overcast weather that day.

Rach, I'm sure they need your services again. I told Sherry that you wanted to volunteer. Send Sherry an email or call her. I'm in it again and this time, I'll eat breakfast so I don't bonk like last time.

Thanks Carl. BTW, it was moved to May cause it was a bit hot in June for something like this. Even though it is tougher than the CC, I also think you can make that 4 hr cutoff.

Gene you're evil tempting me like this. I still think I'd like to finish my first CC in Mar. first and do some duo races in Temecula. I think for 2009 I'd be all over it. I'll try to volunteer though if the dates workout and I can be there.

we did the same mileage that the guys doing the CC did. with more training will it be doable to do the traverse?

MOD EDIT: moved to Traverse thread.

Yes, the cutoff to 4 corners is 4 hrs from the start. The thing that makes the Traverse harder is the lack of downhills to recover and it's in the summer. There is no Silverado MW or Holy Jim, only the rollers along the Main Divide and finally Trabuco. There are still spots open. The Traverse is in May

^ that will make it a lot easier next year! can they take off that last road and make the finish at the bottom of WHT? cuz that last road was bumpy and very uncomfortable when we were all wet and cold...i fell into the first stream crossing and it was deep and VERY cold

how many spots are left for the traverse?

No, you mean the bottom of Holy Jim. The VQ/CC is supposed to be hard. WHT is a singletrack that splits off at Trabuco.

They were too easy last year so the start time was moved an hour later and 1 hr was taken from the 1st cutoff making it 4 hrs instead of 6 hrs. Riders on the bubble last year of not making it but did, will have too ride faster this year. It's also unsupported which means each rider must supply there own water, bars etc. The check points will have water for emergencies.

That makes sense. So, we will have to carry enough water and food for the whole race, not only enough to get to each aid station?
