Default Anyone doing the Super D or XC at Rim

As if there weren't enough rides going on the weekend of October 20-21, there's the Autumn Cup Super D and XC race at Rim Nordic that weekend too.

I know there's the STR B-Day Bash, Tour de Noble and the Hucktoberfest in BB so, it sounds like a really busy weekend.

Anyone planning on making the trip up?

rim nordic officials said that the course will start where the 1st water station was, go along the fireroad (i assume) and drop into the switchbacks and down to the finish area. couse is estimated at about 3 miles. they will start riders in 30 sec. intervals, unless they get a huge number of riders and then may do mass start. sounds like some details need to be worked out but should be pretty cool...

Thumbs up

Rim Nordic totally rules.

I loved the courses and esp the homey feel.

Low-key, Alpine-style XC racing.

if I can somehow convince myself that the drive would be worth racing against less than 5 others in the 19-24 beginner class, i may go. I have to get in any races before I end up leaving for the academy one day

edit: does anyone have the flyer that they emailed you?

response i got:

Sarah....give me your address and I'll mail you a flyer...registration will
be available on Sat up until race time which is 3pm. Practice will be from
10am - 2 pm on Sat. The course is at Rim Nordic Ski Area, across the street
from Snow Valley Mt Resort, 5 miles east of Running Springs on the way to
Big Bear Lake. No deadline for registration and no late fee for registering
on Sat. Course is approx 3 miles; start is a gradual 1 mile climb on a fire
road, to singletrack decenting into 9 switchbacks onto fire road and to the
finish. Depending on how many show depends on type of start; i.e. mass,
LeMans, intervals. A map of the course is posted in our base area. You
will need to either ride up or walk to the start or carpool to the start as
it can be reached from the highway, also. We won't have a shuttle
available for this race. Probably about 1 1/2 drive from OC.

Hope this helps; let me know if you have any other questions.

I think they're running the 2007 Race #1 Course.

I raced Super D there today ... I rode about half the XC course ... it starts out on double track - windy, sandy, kinda steep in places. Not a ton of room for people to spread out. Then after a couple miles you hit the highway (where the Super D course starts) - easy, sandy fireroad for a mile, though an expert man fell on it and a pro woman almost did ... watch out for that sand! Then a kind of double-track starts at the right (which soon narrows to s-track). There's not that much climbing on it. It's not too technical ... there is a small, 1-2 foot drop, but it's rollable - kinda rocky and sandy after the drop. Then 9 tight switchbacks happen (the heart of the Super D course). It's really hard to pass here. And\ expert man ate it right in front of me and got kinda scraped up, but nothing serious. It's sorta sandy and rocky. Then you hit some mostly downhill, sandy/rocky fireroad w/ wide turns. The Super D course ends soon thereafter, but the XC course continues on some s-track. It's an extra few miles, and that I did not ride. So the XC course is about 6 miles I think? Best of luck to you!

was it worth the trip up?
i really wanted to go, but it sounded like a very short course and i decided to get in some miles.
i'd really like to see a super d series happen, with riders doing 2-3 runs for a combined total time. i believe thats how the europeans run enduro events. sounds like a great time...

I rode the first few miles of the XC course and the Super-D course on Sarah's small Nomad........which was pretty hilarious. Even with the seat right up I felt like my knees kept coming alongside my chest. Every time I turned my knees hit the bars and I couldnt get out of the saddle because then the bars were waaaaaaay down there. The bars being so close to my chest made it super twitchy and really unstable - It actually made for a really fun ride though because I was all over the place like some drunken demented newb who'd never ridden before (So not that much different than normal then!) I dont think mountain biking is meant ot be a comedy show but hey when it is - jsut enjoy it

Sarah did really well and finished a mere 20seconds behind the female Pro rider. I make that jsut 1.8% slower over the course! Some would put that down to her dedicated riding but I think the reality is being in the presence of my riding greatness. Technoviking taught me everything

Keith - surely your riding "greatness" should overcome the "smallness" of my nomad! haha

when i first got there i was thinking, "man, why did we drive the hour-and-a-half out here?" then i started riding around and raced. it was actually really fun - perfect weather and scenery (felt like fall for real). it was so nice and cool that even though i forgot my jersey and had to ride in a t-shirt, i felt fine. the people were nice. the course was interesting. laid back atmosphere. and most people won a really cool beer mug - can't beat that! besides, the sport and expert riders are doing 3-4 laps on that course today, which means they'll get 18-24 miles in.

I really wanted to do the Super D! Hopefuly it'll catch on up there.
Sauce, how'd you do?
The course is pretty dry and loose right now, but in the spring after a little rain, it's lots of fun!
