So i woke up today at 6 AM , along with DDB@OCR, and got ready for my race. We headed out the door at seven or so and went straight to vons to get some CLIF bars, NAKED juice, banana's and apples. By the time we had parked at bonelli it was around 730 or so. We headed over and i filled out my registration forms and payed for my entry. We hung out at the truck for about an hour until SHARKY came and hung out with us too. My warm up started at 830 and i spun a bit around the parking lot until the announcement for staging started. i got in line for staging, got my leg marked and waited. Soon later the sport class went off which marked 5 minutes to my start. The 90 second marker went off and my heart rate soasred! but i think it was from the excitement... well the first lap went off good and before a drop onto a long rocky dh section, i snuck by a guy on the inside of a tight switchback. his response was, "hey man watch where your going we're in different classes" my response was, "sorry i couldnt be stuck behind a slow guy on the DH and after all its racing"
so i had the fastest lap time in my class... 30 minutes and 28 seconds. Well i had this race in my pocket with about 3 miles or so to go. well i guess i didnt have it in my pocket because on one of the longer climbs i heard a weird noise and looked back... my rear tire was flat. i finished out the climb and flipped my bike and ripped the wheel off... i grabbed my "race" kit and got ready to change the tube. had a bit of trouble getting the tire off to get the tube out but once i got it, i threw the tube on the track and got the new one in.... i got the tire back on quickly and then blasted a CO2 cartridge into it. It was pretty quick i have to say but i wish it were faster... well the only bad part was 2 people from my class passed me... they were too far ahead to reel them in but i tried as much as i could. I ended up a few minutes out of first but ended up third out of nine. not bad for getting a flat tire ehh?? ![]() well it was my first xc race but not my first mountain biike race howeve the thing that was new to me was a podium finish. Im so excited that im still wearing the medal i got and only took it off when i had to shower! ![]() Well it was a great first XC race experience and i was glad to have help from my favorite people!! i really have to give thanks to DDB@OCR, SHARKY, PHO'D up, Allison, Mechmann, JFromLV, CeeDubb, DenMother and Roger and if i forgot anyone else let me know ![]() oh and i almost forgot! nice meeting all the STR people today and nice job with all the podiums =)

A big shout out to Allison for her 3rd place finish in the sport class. She kicked butt against some tough competition.
Another big shout out to Carl for his very close 2nd then 3rd place finish in the beginner class. At the last minute..podium time...they kept shuffling the medals around. A mysterious racer placed 1st in his class. It was great supporting and meeting the riders. Great job to all that raced! |

Up early, stopped at Starbucks then headed out to the venue, water bottles, camera and cowbell in hand.
Up drives the Supermanns with Justin already in the doghouse. Seems he forgot the cooler at home (with all their water bottles). We managed to find 2 in our ice chest and borrowed 1 from a friend. Also set Justin up with our racing camelback. And then off we went to stage the replacement drinks in the feed zone. We took pictures there for the 1st 2 laps then headed up to the steep cactus lined downhill to watch some carnage (didn't see any, darn). Good to meet so many new STR folks. Congrats to everyone who race. Got a few photos.

Right on Brandon! Congratulations! Although flat tires are part of racing, you had it, man!
Also, congrats to Allison!

Nice meeting you Carl, Ann and finally formally meeting denmother. Good time out there today, and Justin kicked my butt. Is it possible to have so much fun getting your butt kicked? I guess it is.
