looks like a good course to try to race on the SS.

Online registration is up and running

http://www.active.com/event_detail.c...EE&affiliate=0

$25 bucks on or before 10/09/07, $30 after.

I've done this race twice and the course was different each time. So having ridden the course the previous year doesn't give you much of an advantage. If you've never raced before, this is a good race to cut your teeth on. If you've ran the XC course before, the starts are very similar for about a half mile or so and then it's completely different.

A good majority of the route is ridable (SS friendly), except for a short steep climb, which almost everyone walks.

I've been looking forward to this race and the bonelli (oct 7th) one for the last couple months as my first two ever races.

then I found out the Muddy Buddy event also held at bonelli is the same day as this race. Somehow I have to either tell my brother we are not doing this MB, or just not do this race.

We could get a bunch of STR riders in the beginner class! I'd be down for a fun 12 miles.

Hell, we could host it as a newbie ride!

Justin and I are registered in Sport.

I've only ever raced 2 XC races, and both were mostly "for fun" since I was the only chick racing SS, and only had to do one lap (my choice).

Never done anything close to 18 miles of all out racing. Should be fun, though.

RaceSpokes are you in??

I only race "for fun" too. It just so happens to be much more fun when you win!

Looking forward to seeing lots of STR peeps out there.

I never done a race but this looks pretty fun to me. I'm down to socialize while I'm racing. Newbie ride with a fee and maybe a cool trophy! Everyone going to sport their STR threads?

The laps are pretty short. You can show up early the morning of the race and do a lap as a warm up.
I haven't raced there in 3 years, but if i remember correctly, there is nothing technical to worry about. There are 2 or 3 steep but short climbs. The last one could be a hike a bike depending on the traffic in front of you and the softness of the trail.
There is also a section with no trail. It is a cow pasture and extremely bumpy. It was very difficult to get a good cadence going, as my rear wheel kept bouncing all over the place. I guess full suspension would help there.
Anyway, as STP said, it is a fun event, with a low key vibe, and very cool trophies.
Good luck!

This is a fun race to come support and hang out. Franky set up his canopy at the bottom of the hill that claimed a few victims that leads down to the lot (+ cold "beverages" YUM) not to mention we all cleaned up at the raffle!! I won the hitch rack there (for sale)...they were laughing at me on the freeway cause it only fit with the top down (hubba) it was huge!! Kept hearing "nice rack" so it must be a good one.
All the STR racers rocked. See you all there.

I think I am going to try this race. It will be my first race. What do I need to carry during the race? Should I be prepared to do minor maintenance or just realize that once I need to fix something, I'm screwed anyway.
