Ha! I remember it well! So does Willie -- he launched himself off it on each of his loops last time (he talked about it a lot...).

Okay, so the maps look similar up around the top (the overlays are almost exact), but now I get that there are slight differences that can't be accounted for on the geoladders mappings. Cool. Thanks.

Well, yeah, especially in the lower canyons and bmx area -- we're now going down something we went up in January, and then the trail completely changes until the last climb up and over Marine Corp Hill. Should be a fun ride, yeah?

The thing to watch out for on this course (I think), will be the new down (which was a hike-a-bike up last time) at mile 4.59 on the course mapping. RAAM, is that one hairy?!?! No matter, I'll prolly walk it down anyways as I am still nursing back my broken rib and compression fractures caused by that Harley on May 6. I almost didn't register because of that sh#t, but I am feeling pretty good, so gonna go for it.

Also, it appears we don not have to go down the Cheese Grater this time which was a pain in the ass for me in January (my avatar p[ic is me at the bottom of the grater)!!

Hey, I'll be out there on Saturday, too.

The January event was my first 12 hour race. Had a great time and did much better than expected.

I remember seeing Willie out on the course. Very inspiring

I'll be racing in the two person open category.

The hairiest part is probably coming down the first new single track and that is hairy because it gets sandy when you come down. I am expecting people to go down there a lot. SO watch out for that! There is another downhill part after you pass by where that big canyon at the bottom of the short, steep sandy little downhill spot. You pretty much have to hiek a bike up, you can make it up on the right, except it is sandy. The middle is sandy with steps. But going down the other side is kind of tricky. Steep and a few steps, but its not hard. Just watch your speed at the top and then after the first little step just get off the brakes and take your speed to the next hill you have to go up.

The new course is fun. A few more climbs than race 3 from last year that will wear you out, but I like a lot of the changes they made

So how did all you guys like the new changes they made?

They had a lot of hand outs after the race, but my number never gets called!! i was like 2 numbers away from the wheelset though. Maybe i should have let the people behind me register before me! Oh well. My fastest lap was 57 minutes. The other guys on my team were a bit slower than me so we didnt manage to get the 11th lap in, but we all had fun. One broken chain and we didn't have a spare so we had to share two bikes between 3 people the rest of the race.

Take some time off and then train some more for race 3. I need to work on my nutrition more than anything.

I was out there Drinking Tons of Beer Screaming for all of you!!! with my son Zach!

We came to support, Neil 1x1clyde, but ended up staging at Doug Andrews Tent, as he got sick and went home just after setting up at a perfect spot.

Matt Hermit, Ryan QuadDamage were running a Duo, then a guy from Arizona Chris, We assisted them as they came through each hour!

It was Perfect Weather for Drinking. =P (never seen bad weather for that though!) All of the SingleSpeeders were not liking the new course... There were a few that were running 29ers with 32x21 that said it worked. But all others were hating it.

I ran a lap at 4:20, it was as I remembered except there were some new cut singletrack that was loose with sharp turns, ok on a 26er @ 32x20. I waited at the water station and handed whiskey to riders passing!

Neil, is always massively prepared, and had the most beautiful new Chumba! So 3rd Lap we switched out, and ran the Camel with the new Camel Tablets in the pack...

Neils first lap on the chumba was fast, but he came back messed... His front Tubeless Wheel came OFF, on a fast descent to a turn.

We passed him the Flask of Whiskey, a beer, and made him a sandwich! Road Rash was cleaned, extra wheelset was installed. Neil took a few minutes and jumped back out there, maintaining a solid lap time on the geared Chumba (that weighs like 2 lbs! hehe)

Ryan and Matt, were keeping consistant lap times...

Shudder and his son Willie, were staged right across from us! It was a pleasure to meet you guys! And really excellent job out there!!!

Bernice and the Sho-Air team were just cranking through the laps.. and Intense Bikes showed very strong out there yesterday.

Congratulations to all who participated! It was a tough course!!

I took pictures with others cameras, hope you guys post some of the pics!

Thanks

Thanks Steven for all the help!
Zach was a superstar out there keeping everything clean Tell him his payment is on the way!!

Things I learned about the race yesterday:

Its hot at Vail Lake in June

Stans Rims are over-rated, especially when your front tire comes off on sweeping downhill

After my wife, Steven and Co. might be the best support crew out there

You need to eat, no matter what your mind says!

A Newcastle after every 2nd lap isn't that bad of an idea, I actually got faster!

The kindness of fellow racers is always amazing...when I was cramping so bad I had to get in the fetal position on the side of the trail...a fellow racer helped me get some sodium back in the system and then rode with me for a while.
On my last lap I paid it back by hanging out with a racer who was struggling up the dam climb. We chatted and before she knew it, we were up and over!

It's great putting faces to the names. It was nice meeting and racing with Shudder and meeting his son Willie along with Matt and Ryan from Geoladders.

Peanut butter and honey are tasty.
Pasta makes the strange stomach ache associated with endurance racing go away,it was crazy but worked!
There may be nothing better then a chilled Chocodile after 6 hours of heat and dust!

Gears are fun, suspension was a blast. I was happy to not have to get off and walk up anything.....The last 3 times on the downhill right past the water station, I was actually "hucking" into it and "hucking" off the last rock band...Nam would have been proud!

I have done alot of XC races and honestly the 12/24 hour stuff is alot more fun.

Thanks to Jason and his family for another great day of racing!

I think I saw Ch4os out there and I did see 1x1clyde one time coming in from a lap. Ch4os, I am assuming you were the guy I saw riding around all the time with long hair I think just chatting with everyone.

I heard some guys talking about how some guy had a thermometer on his bike and said it had reached like 108 on the course at some point. Don't know how accurate that is, but it sure felt like that.

I had the thermo on my VDO! It hit 107 on mine, but it was at 103 for much of the race. It was definitely one hot mutha out there. And not a speck of shade!
