I was running UST single-ply HighRollers (2.35R/2.5F) on DeeMax wheels on my VPX. However, recently while at Aliso, I pinched a rear tire, causing a cut in the sidewall. Although I may try fixing it with superglue (and I always run Stans), I no longer have faith in this setup.
I'm looking for a fast tire that hooks up well at Southridge. Ideally, I'd like to keep the weight down, and I'd prefer UST, but that's not a requirement. What are you suggestions? Also, please include your weight, bike, and skill level. Also, for non-UST tires, what tubes do you use for presta valve rims? |

SleepDirt, that's some mighty big rubber you got there.
Are you using the 2-ply DH version? ehanson, are you also using the 2-ply versions? I've used Mobsters and Minions years ago, but they were really slow rolling. Is the traction worth it on the courses at Southridge? I like the idea of the Minion up front and a Highroller in the rear (if going to run Maxxis). Then it's a debate of UST 1-ply vs 2-ply w/tubes (I will check Maxxis' site to see if anything has changed - it's been a while since I've looked). |

I don't think there's a big difference in weight between the UST Minions and the DH casing. There was a thead on Ridemonkey about this: UST maxxis? - Ridemonkey.com See you at the race. Be sure and say Hey (or "on your left!") if you see me out there. |

Yes, I am running the Maxxis Mobster 2-Ply 2.50 Super Tacky front and rear and it feels like I'm towing a trailer. My other two options are the Intense Comp 60 2-ply tires I got there last weekend in a 2.7 front and 2.5 back, or, for extremely low weight I could always use my Kenda Nevegal 2.35/2.10 that I have set aside for my trail bike. I think those could blow out though.

Intense 909 DC Lite setup as ghetto tubeless. Seal the rim with duct tape, bmx tube for rim strip + Stan's. Works awesome and they're light. Oh, and I'm running a Sun Ringle SUV wheelset (left over from my last bike).

That sounds like a fun way to do it. How much of the bmx tube to you cut away? And, does the duct tape span from edge to edge inside the wheel or is it just in the lower channel to cover the spokes holes? Great idea. One last thing, how do you keep the schraeder valve from pushing into the wheel when you inflate?
