I just came back from riding Northstar (on the way back from Whistler). The new trails off the Zephyr express (the ones that are finished to this point) are pretty lame.

There is a section of jumps that are said to be watered at the top of Live Wire, but they could use some work (the soft landing on the backside of the step-up jump is pretty hairy). They're not that well shaped, either.

It's really, really loose on the new runs. Imagine the soft crap at Fontana and magnify it by 100, throw in a few million loose rocks on the course, and then know that the entire run is like that. Use a 2.7" tire up front. tHopefully it will get better as time goes on. The older race courses and runs are in decent shape (for Tahoe). I guess I was spoiled after riding Whistler. I don't know if I'd actually make Tahoe a destination for riding or racing - maybe stop there on the way to or from somewhere, though, but not a final destination.

I wholeheartly disagree, I think the xc riding in Tahoe is some of the best I've ever rode. Maybe not technical, but if you like riding in the trees and nature, it's very hard to beat Tahoe. If you're looking for a dh run, then of course Whistler and Mammoth would be a better choice.

Thanks Pain Freak. I should clairify that I was talking DH only. Although I also had a trail bike with me, I really went to Northstar to ride the much-hyped DH runs.
