Thanks for the link, Schecky. Being a prosthetist, I immediately printed the article to show a few of my patients.

We happened to have a one-armed racer in our camp at the 12 Hr Temecula last weekend. For those of you who know how difficult some of those downhill sections were, imagine doing that without the aid of both arms.

He had a prosthetic arm especially designed for mountain biking. If you ever see him at the races, he's a pretty cool guy and doesn't mind discussing how he manages riding difficult terrain.

I know a guy who is a fire captain out in Vegas who rides with one arm and a prosthetic one. He goes by the nickname of "Captain Hook"' I'm not making this up. His real name is Robin and I raced with him at the Brian Head 100, and this guy is faster then fast!

Very cool. Is he running both brakes on one side?

Yes, he's offset the levers slightly so he uses his index finger for the top lever and middle finger for the lower lever.

This is one application that a Rolf geared hub would work well.

Saw a guy with a set up like that out in palm springs. He had both arms, but was basically missing one hand.

My Dad had his left leg amputaded just below the knee. When I see guys like this, who don't just ride, they kick ass, I think it's amazing.
