There is a new mid week mountain bike race series at Irvine Lake. It's called Over the Hump. It is OC's only race series.
So far there are two scheduled dates. Aug. 26th and Sept. 17th. Races start at 6pm.
For more information or to preregister check out their link.

Any ideas on the route? I have never riden any trails at Irvine Lake.
oh no way! I'm definitely going to be running a few races this season then!
Like Paul said, is there a course map out yet?

Sweet!

Cool! Wonder how full the beginner class will be?![]()
Since the race starts at 6pm does that mean it's a mass start and then beginners will do 1 lap and get off the course while the rest continue and so on and so forth?
Also will there be a women's class? I think the misses would love to race one of these as well.
Id like to see the course, but I may give it a shot in the begginer class.
Wonder if they'll be a singlespeed beginners clydesdale class 30-40yr old?

TKBlazer: Pho'dUp forgot his clothesi guess i have to stop by the thrift store and pick him up a dress to wear for the race
Registration page has option of Men/Women Beg/Sport/Expert classes. Age groups depend on registration. No word on SS.
T-Shirt size options are S/M/L/XL. No XXL or XXXL - doesn't look like they count on clydes class![]()
Im in for the noob class. I hear they just get to heckle and drink beer. Maybe a 1 mile loop on some flat ground around cones after say 5 beers.
When you have more than you think, you need more space. Society you are a crazy breed,I hope you wont be lonely without me.

Nice! I may have to make one of these my first race since it seems like it will be pretty laid back. Anyone have any links to info about the trails in that area?
after reading the site over a few times it seems like it will be a closed course, in other words, doesn't look like you can pre-run the course prior to the race. I'm more or less curious as to how much climbing and decending there will be...
Nice! That should be rad... and only $20/race!
I too am curious about what course they have. There are hills similar to Blackstar behind Irvine Lake but I believe it is private property. It would be cool if the route was set up on the privite property side. It is real scenic back there. Other wise, I picture a few laps around the lake which is fairly flat.
Thank You Rock and Road...OC needs this.
Since the County Parks don't allow racing (except for firefighters) I would think that the race will stay on the city of Irvine's property. If you want a taste of the trails out there join the Taco Tuesday ride out there.
