Default 6 Hours of OC

I know this is still a few months ahead but I was wondering if anyone is doing this? How do these "hours" races work? You ride for 6 hours and whatever team goes furthest wins?

I hoping to make it to Mexico - what direction are you riding

nah, specific details aside, they have a race lap (seem to recall between 5-6 miles and 1700 of vert), complete as many laps as possible in 6 hours. some races allow you to continue on last lap if riding during time exp while other count only completed. Experts have been completing this lap in under 40 min and losers like me around 55 min. (loser comment directed at me only)

WS puts on a good event and most racers I encountered at prior are real cool (inlcuding STR peeps of course)

just like killa Cali Kid said.......laps around the Flying B ranch. I did this race last year as a two man team....loads of fun. If you've never raced, it's a good intro and if you have raced...just kick ass at it. I'll prob be doing it again this year. WS and Switchback did a GREAT job of setting it up and keeping it running smooth. Nice location as well.

I did it last year as a 2 man. It's relaxed and some teams/solo people take it all seriously, especially in the transition. It's fun and I'd highly recommend. Take you easy up for shade by your car. Warriors do a great job with food, transistion, and organizing. Go for it! It's a great experience...I'm thinking solo this year & taking my time. Oh ya, bring tasty brews for the end.

I did a last year, it was so much fun. We should have a much longer/better course this year. I'll be out there solo again.

How does it work with a team? Is it like a relay or does the whole team go out at once and have to finish as a team?

Lap is actually only 5.7 miles with about 1200 ft of climb. Only laps completed by 2:00 if race starts at 8:00 will be counted. Lap times vary between the riders. Some will do it in about 35 mins. while others will take close to 1hr.

I was talking to someone else and they said you go out one at a time and you dont have to ride the same bike. So you could switch off each lap with teammates if you want to.

The race is a relay. It consists of 1,2 or 3 person teams.

Only 1 person per team is allowed on the course at any one time.

Only completed laps count. The race starts at 8am and ends at 2 pm.
Only laps completed by 2pm are counted.

You will race against your appropriate teams.....ei: 1 person vs. 1 person, 2 person vs. 2 person, etc.

You will be given a card which will be punched each time you come through the start/finish line.

Each person on your team must do at least one lap. After that it is a free-for-all.

Lap times vary from 35 mins. to 1:15 mins.

Course will be 5.7 miles with 1250 ft of climbing.

What else you wanna know?

Feel free to ask me questions.

J-
seem to recall some "new singletrack" that was being built instead of that one climb before single track down with jumps (have no ideas names of sections). what are plans for 24 hour? that climb up fire road or singletrack. seemed like some more work was needed to celan up singletrack?

The sinlge track that was being built is an extension of Lare-Dog trail. I know we were planning on useing it in the 6 Hour and the xc event but I don't know for sure.

that singletrack was more difficult in my opinion than climbing the fireroad. i know it wasn't even close to being done yet, but i think the distance of going straight up the fireroad was much shorter than the 5 or 6 switchbacks that had been started.

ocrider vs. dukethenuke vs. vonlycra....stay tuned!!!

Yeah, we won't be using the singletrack taht we began to build.

The course will be the same as the 24hr course. It is waaaaay too damn hot to be trail building out in that canyon during these months.

I seem to recall some slightly unpleasant temps at the 24hr race there too

Let the trash talking begin.

I seem to remember ocrider saying something about the other guys being old, lazy and slow. Or maybe he was talking about me?
