from Riverside. What type of racing are you interested in? There is an XC/SD/DH race coming up at Fontana on 11/22-23 which would be a good place to get your feet wet!

where are you ~ finding a race and training to work toward a goal is a good start.

Thanks for the welcoming!!! I'm in the Huntington Beach area and interested in getting into XC racing. Definitely an amateur/novice level. I'll definitely check out the link for the Fontana race coming up. I take it there's all racing levels available

John,

Fontana / Southridge starts early in the year and is a great intro:

http://www.southridgeusa.com/

The official state series is run by Team Big Bear and has 8 races throughout the LA area. All have Beginner category racing so you should not have an issue. They have not posted their 2009 calendar yet, but it will be at:

www.teambigbear.com

You can check out the 2008 races, results, etc there.

Finally, my persoanl favorite is Rim Nordic racing up at Running Springs. Sweatest singletrack and course in So cal and super well organized. Again, they don;t have their 2009 dates out yet, but you can find details at:

http://www.rimnordic.com/bike.php

You might also want to consider joing a team. With a team you typically have the support and comraderie at races plus the local group rides. My personal recommendation (since I ride for them) is Team Shoair. You can find info at:

www.teamvelosport.com

2009 applications and spankin new uniforms will be available from around the second week in December. Check us out!

Obviously, the best source for group rides is the STR website!

from Claremont, John!

Looks like you have plenty of good tips on racing already. Just get out there and do it.

I look forward to seeing you on the trails!

Thanks for the compliments! I think the Fontana series is a great one to start on and also we really try to cater our events to the entry level rider! We would love to have you come out and ride with us and our leather number plates!

Again welcome and remember any racing is good racing! Enjoy!
