I am planning on doing the VC this year. I did the century a month thing in '07 (road) and doing the CA Triple Crown in '08 (road). I need something new that doesn't require as much training. Plus something dirt would be a nice change of pace.

I will be riding my Niner 1x9 (30 x 11-34). I want to go without a pack, carrying water on the frame and large saddle bag carrying my food and gear. I will look at putting an extra water bottle or two on the frame to ensure I carry enough water.

The VQ is much harder than a road century IMO.

I've done it many times with just bottles. There are 2 aid stations.

Wonder how the VQ compares to all that road work. I've seen centuries with over 10K ft in climbing.

I've yet to try a VQ, but I know that the thought of going up West Horsethief and adding another 20miles 2700ft after already doing 35+miles, 8500ft..

Curious Maven, how many hours do you think you'll finish the VQ in?

I figured that statement would get a few people all riled up. My point was it's one event to train for rather than 3 doubles. I have no doubt the VQ will be an arse kicker.

As for time I have no idea. I'm not going to call something like that out with no previous experience to compare it to.

Should be about the same as last year.......$110 or $120. Registration will only be done via Active.com and they usually tack on a few $$.

Does anyone have the route in a mapping format, e.g. GPX, KML, etc.?

Here is the route via Geoladders:

http://www.geoladders.com/show_route...1&route_id=489

You should be able to download in a GPX file.

I don't know if it's online or not, but the list was published in Bike.
