Looks like fun, never ridden there. Looking at doing the SS category.

Is this the same course that the Mt. Sac races take place on?

I've never raced XC before - only longer events. Would it be OK for me to race Beginner? Or should I be in Sport?

did this race last year....looks like they still have the screwy age group categories.

not at the top of the list for xc racing by any means....but fun! a lot of fireroad roller kind of stuff....no sustained climbs or descents. i definitely wouldn't drive more then an hour for this race though.

it may be a part of the socal triple crown....if that still exists??

either way, i will probably be out there.

In my mind beginner is reserved for people that are new to racing in general. If you have done endurance events you are probably ok for Sport.

Luke, thanks for the heads up. Been taking a break from racing and wanted to get back into it. Found some CX events and this plus the last 12 Hr at Vail Lake in Nov. This event sounds like a good one to get my racing legs back underneath me.

Dubjay you have to race sport. If you don't I'm gonna come by your house everyday with a new bag of sand. I raced beginner's there last year b/c it was my second race ever, and the first I had done in over 2 years. And I squeezed out a 3rd place, and missed second by 5sec when I was out of gas and a guy with gears beat me to the line.

This is a great SSinglespeed course. It's not technical and there's no long long climbs. In fact I think the singlespeed winner last year was on a CX bike. But the climbs are long enough and steep enough that you can really put the screws to the gearies if you attack. Oh, and they do sometimes cut a new singletrack section. Last year lots of guys and gals went down their first lap into the cacti.

They usually run the course pretty much the same way. As it gets closer PM me and we can go out and pre-ride. Or go out with the Incycle guys as I think they ride there on Mondays.

Nice little race. Some raffle stuff, and the MC from Incycle is pretty funny.

But as with all short XC races, they'll be plenty of Sandbaggers. Not as bad as the Mt. Sac race but I think when I raced Beginner's 1st place in our category smoked the field. So bad that we never saw the guy till the podium ceremony.

Oooh, looks like they changed the SSpeed category this year to 3 laps same as sport. Though, I think it's funner racing the gearies.

Here's last year's Bonelli Race report.

Thanks for the heads-up and info guys. I don't want any bags of sand on my door though, so I guess I'll have to do sport if I enter. I wanted to do this as a tune-up for the last 12 hour in Temecula.

Its part of the SoCal Triple Crown Series. Also has two additional races (Mt. Sac at end of Oct and Fontana in November). Overall category winners get a pretty nice jersey.

This is a fun race. A long race, but its not a tough course. Mostly fire road, and cut out climbs and descents, with the occasional singlerack areas. There are a few good climbs, but it is a longer race.
I reccomend trying it definitely.

I've never done a race... this looks like it might be a good starting spot. I'm considering the Sport class, only 18 miles

This was my first race last year, well, my first cross country race.. If your on a cross country bike, and in pretty good shape, go for sport, if your on a tank like i was, and in decent shape, race beginner to get your toes wet

Thanks for the info. I ride a XC bike and often turn 20 miles for the fun of it. I'm in decent shape and I've ridden Bonelli a few times. The Beginner class just isn't enough miles for me. So I'll aim high!

Have fun Rawhead! All I'll say is 18miles at race pace and 18miles turning fun laps are a world of difference. For me anyways.

Be ready to pump battery acid for about 1hr 30min!!!

I HOPE to be racing sport so see you out there.

Yeah I think you should be good in sport. You can climb fast so that's a bouns. Races are won on the climbs.

Maybe sport or beginner. I want to try an XC race do you think they will allow a 13 yr old? Would this be an okay race for a kid?
