Julia go for it. I'll race with you, and My goal is to bump up to sport for my age group, but race on my singlespeed.
It will be tough, but i think you should go for it.
Start riding as much as you can now though

Sure! You can race beginner XC. As long as you do it on your 40lb.+ Flatline.

Or maybe, maybe, the Singlspeed fixie.

They have a free kids race but you might be able to get into the beginner race with your parents permission.

Only if you do it backwards, blindfolded, on a skinny tire commuter fixie with no brakes, dragging my a$$ up in a BOB trailer.

Good Luck!!!!

Good idea Carl but it would be a unfair advantage on the DH sections
It's actually a good course, I think SS is in order!

I think you should just hook Penny up to one of these and race this rig. I think this qualifies as SSpeed.

This was my first xc race and i did it last year. I had a blast. much more fun course than the mt. sac race, which I didn't enjoy as much.

Results here:
http://www.geoladders.com/mbr_show_race.php?route=9620

Notice the timing issues. I'm not bagging on the peeps that run the race, just noting they had issues keeping things straight. Something to consider before paying for this race.

Last year, it was HOT. This course is mostly fireroad and was dusty and dry. I'm not a fan, but it's a spectator friendly course and there was a nice vibe amongst the other racers.

Overall, a good beginner race that's in a good location and at a good venue, but I like the Rim Nordic and Idyllwild races better.

It seems the sport times were slower than the beginner times. I assume that is what you are referring to above?

I'm probably doing this as well. I'm racing Sport. I'm concerned about the course this year. I raced the Team big bear race this year. The course has been altered due to drainage construction. And now the Jungle sections at the end has been flooded by the lake, probably three feet deep, it sucked when my buddy and I tried to ride through there. We skipped it and turned around the water was black and who knows what might be living in there! The bonelli course is in need of some work.

If yo9ur saying the lake at bonelli is covering parts of the trail, I think it has been remedied. I did a lap around the lake two nights ago the wet area has been fixed. The trails are very loose right now, due to scrapping from the big machines.
