They have a free kids race but you might be able to get into the beginner race with your parents permission.

http://www.geoladders.com/mbr_show_race.php?route=9620 Notice the timing issues. I'm not bagging on the peeps that run the race, just noting they had issues keeping things straight. Something to consider before paying for this race. Last year, it was HOT. This course is mostly fireroad and was dusty and dry. I'm not a fan, but it's a spectator friendly course and there was a nice vibe amongst the other racers. Overall, a good beginner race that's in a good location and at a good venue, but I like the Rim Nordic and Idyllwild races better.

I'm probably doing this as well. I'm racing Sport. I'm concerned about the course this year. I raced the Team big bear race this year. The course has been altered due to drainage construction. And now the Jungle sections at the end has been flooded by the lake, probably three feet deep, it sucked when my buddy and I tried to ride through there. We skipped it and turned around the water was black and who knows what might be living in there! The bonelli course is in need of some work.
