Default For those of your thinking about doing 24 Fall Hurkey

You may want to consider registering sooner than later -

I just got this email - not sure if this race ever gets 700 racers, but thought i'd pass along the info:

Hello Adrenalin seekers:

This past spring we had the largest turn out for a spring race ever and we are looking forward to seeing many of you in six weeks. We just finished hosting the most successful International World Solo Championships with 15 countries attending. A sold out field of nearly 1,550 riders.

Sorry if we have been difficult to reach, but we are now back in the office after five weeks on the road.

New for this fall is a participant cap on the race. We will only be permitting 700 riders to take part in the fall event. Please note that we have reserved all the best campsites for our event, but the group areas will not be rented for 2008. Only sites 1 - 130 are available.

For riders who raced in the spring event we will be providing a slight discount that will be credited to you once you have registered in full.

Register Now by clicking here

We look forward to spending time with you this coming September.

Remember space is limited as we are capping the event at 700 riders, that's teams, solo riders and 8-hr riders.

Hope too see you in September,

twenty4 sports

got it too...and took the plunge. $292 for 24 solo...ouch. i guess that isn't as bad as the $450 i paid for ironman last year.

i wonder what the reimbursement amount will be for those who raced in the spring??

anyway...guess i gotta do it now.

just got registered. solo. i didnt receive any sort of credit when i completed the registration either. i was also really disappointed to see that solo riders can not reserve a campsite. wtf. $300 and we dont get a campsite? oh and it costs to get your vehicle in-which we solo riders will not have easy access to. and anyone not registered to race (like solo support/pit crew) will also have to pay to enter the park.

next spring i'll be dong 24 at vail lake for sure....

i think 24hr of adrenaline needs to seriously consider a venue change if hurkey creek is responsible for these costs.

What??? I guess we should be glad we are missing this one! This was going to be Neils 1st 24hr solo I guess they think you'll pit on the grass??? i would have been pissed to not be able to pick a site, you almost have to camp for a 24hr event team or no team it's 24hrs!!! - plus you can't get a refund if your life depended on it.These little details are why so many have turned away from the Adrenaline events.

Did you race solo in the spring??If not and you raced on a team I bet you don't get the discount.

We've done both events...We have been loyal to Granny Gear for years, this past spring we thought we'd try to shake things up a bit and race against more than a few teams, the Vail Lake spring is always very small...

Granny Gears camping at Vail is not free either you get a site for a discounted fee just like Jasons races (although the sites are less *i think*) - The cost for either race event rounds out to be about the same.

fwiw - I think we'll be going back to GG and their events!

Limiting the race to 700 total people doesn't even make any sense. Are they trying to limit the number of people on the course?

If they want to limit something, limit the number of teams / solos in each catagory. Or limit the number of solos then limit the number of teams.

Oh well, I'm just not a fan for more rules that don't make any sense.

i really want to like the adrenaline series... but i dont know. i did register this past spring as a team, so i was hoping see a price break.
note: teams do get to pick a site, solo's do not.

i know these are expensive... i just would have thought it would be a bit more accommodating with that kind of sticker price...

for what its worth, santa barbara crew has a fall 24hr race. looks like its gonna rock. we'll be there for sure: the 24hr of chamberlin ranch. check it out at ridesb.com

It's not about the amount of people on the trail...(i don't think)
Usually the fall is their big race, and they reserve both the group camp and the regular campground. In the spring the race is smaller and only the regular campground was available for the racers to use. Sounds like same thing for the fall race (only the regular campground will be available for use)
So I belive it's more about camping space or people per area?? I could be wrong

May not be Adreanaline's fault. Maybe Hurkey Creek is demanding a smaller number so they can keep the campground open during the race. Even when the race sells out, not all the campsites are taken. Maybe Hurkey wants both.

yes, this is not entirely 24hr Adren's "fault". hurkey creek wants the campground full.
i'll have team-mates racing there in the 5 person and i'll just use their campsite/pit support.

i'm really looking forward to the event regardless, i hope it sells out.

I'll be out there for another 8 hr solo attempt. Last time I was able to pick a campsite next to my friends, hopefully I can still do that this time. My dad had so much fun camping with me and my boys I think it would break his heart if I didn't do it again.

nope, solos (8 and 24) get lumped into a separate area away from the teams/others, but near the expo. you do not get to pick a site/spot. you could always use your familys campsite for a pit, but it may be off the course....

just took a look at the campsites.... there looks like there has been a lot of entries in the last 24 hours. cool.

I maybe wrong but I do belive you can pay for a site seperatly after your registration..We reserved 2 sites for spring it cost me an extra $150.0 to do so.

I emailed them asking if I could reserve another spot..they said yes and then I paid the addtional fee - it was an additional item available for purchase..They added our name to the addtional site. 8 hr racers could do the same thing. It takes about 48hrs to get everything confirmed via email.

Don't hold me to this, now that they have a 700 racers cap things may be different.

We're first timers for this event and really looking forward to it. Lot's politics going on here and I'll listen and learn, but nonetheless we are pumped to meet so many great riders and soak in the whole atmosphere. Can't wait!

Default 24hr Solo & 8hr Camping update..

Good News! see RED

Hello again adrenalin seekers,

Registration is about 18% ahead of numbers last year (fall 07) and we just wanted to remind you that we are just 37 days away from this years event.

Couple things to keep in mind;

1) We have booked sites 1 - 130 of the park for 2008. The park fees have increased (40%) and we have adjusted by decreasing our on site footprint.

2) We have capped the event at 700 riders. That includes all teams, solo and 8-hour riders.

3) Currently we have set aside all camping sites (130) for teams in the 24 Hour event. We will however be opening up sites to the many 8-hr riders that are looking for camp sites for the weekend. Please note that we will open these sites starting next Monday. We will also offer sites for purchase to solo 24 riders on Monday.

4) A week from today we will be placing our t-shirt, pint glass and water bottle order. Only teams signed up we receive these items, so don't wait.

thanks for your time and we look forward to seeing you at Hurkey Creek.

Default solo's

The 24 hours solo's I think get a camp site, only the 8 hour solo's don't get a spot. I did howwever get an e-mail from 24OA that said they were going to open up camp sites to the 8 hour solo peeps I think starting the 24th.

Do you have to pay an additional camping fee for the spot or is it part of the race fee like the 24 teams?

i meant a campsite included with the already gnarly registration fee. i was told through a rider on the 24hr committee that i could receive a camping spot as a solo rider if i registered as a team, and paid the team entry fee...

makes total sense.
