i ordered a pair of smarty's (slightly similar to candy's) and eggbeaters at the same time. clipping into the eggbeaters was way easier and always clipped in on the first time. after literally a minute of trying to clip in to the smarty's, i got off the bike, put the eggbeaters back on and packaged the smarty's back up and off to the post office. beaters all the way

I switched from SPD to eggbeater but it took some time to get used to all the float. I also have a set of candies but didn't like the platform. Once you get used to eggbeaters you will never go back to anything. And plus the guys at crankbrothers are super cool and are always willing to help!

I run the Candy SL's. They've taken a beating and still work great.

Before you ditch the SPD's, try a new set of cleats. I found as the cleats wear I have a harder time clipping in.

I had the eggbeaters but just ordered a set of candys to see if I like the platform better...seems like it could come in handy in tricky situations, i.e. starting from a stop and trying to go uphill before you're completely clipped in...which is somewhat of a PITA for me with the eggbeaters
